Agriturismo Marcarini

Stayed here for three nights and can't say enough about my stay. Elisa is absolutely fantastic. Really helpful, speaks great English and let me speak my very little Italian, rooms are big, bright and comfortable, setting is spectacular. Can't wait to go back in white truffle season.

Set among vineyards, a beautiful building. Our room was large with a lovely private balcony and a very well appointed bathroom. Elisa is a wonderful host and breakfast is great...including the tiramisu! However it is isolated and you do need to drive some distance to dinner. A visit to the Marcarini cellars in Morra is worthwhile. Good wine and well informed staff.

Marcarini is a very clean well run place to stay and is convenient to the many different great wine areas of Piemonte. Elisa was great. She did everything and was a huge help. From making breakfast to making reservations for us, she did it all with a smile. Carla who works primarily for the winery was also very nice. She told us of a wine tasting in La Morra and then made sure we were welcome and had a great time.

Room Tip: The apartment has two rooms and a kitchen with washer, stove, sink and refrigerator. A great place...

My wife and I stayed 3 nights in the Marcarini apartment. After 3 weeks of travelling through Northern Italy and staying at some very nice apartments, this was easily the best. Wonderfully appointed, clean and comfortable. Great location off the beaten track, surrounded by grape vines and beautiful idyllic countryside. The staff (Elisa) was an absolute gem! She helped us with appointments to wineries, restaurants and local sights. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious as there was always some freshly baked cakes from the region. For those on the Italian wine trail there are some excellent vineyards to see in the Barbaresco and Barolo areas. The Marcarini cellars on the top of La Morra provided the most spectacular views of the valley and some very nice wines. If you want to see the Gaja winery in Barbaresco, you'll need to book a month in advance! Also try Carlo Giacosa, great full bodied wines. For the foodies, the best food around is a 3 Michelin star Restaurant in Alba called Piazza Duomo. Amazing food and equally amazing service...but expensive. 170 euros for a nine course degustation plus cost of wine. If you can afford it, its a MUST DO for an unforgettable experience. Overall, Marcarini Agriturismo is a great local place to stay and highly recommended!! I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Room Tip: The apartment was on the ground floor and you could park just outside the room for easy transfer of...

My husband and I stayed at the agriturismo for 3 nights this past November. As it was the off-season, we were the only guests in the hotel. The receptionist as well as the lady who made breakfast for us were super nice, helpful and accomodating. Our room was clean, nicely decorated and had a little patio overlooking the inner courtyard. And we were very happy to see there were screens on the windows as the weather was unusually warm for the time of year and there were still mosquitoes.

However, we did want to note a few things. The agriturismo is located not far from Barbaresco, so it is convenient for nearby winery visits and in fact is not too far (about 20-30) minutes driving to La Morra or Alba. However, the agriturismo itself is not a farm or winery. The Marcarini family does own a winery but that is near La Morra. The agriturismo located on the road so one can hear the cars go by. Also, I would say relatively speaking that it is not in the prettiest location in Piedmont.

However, I do recommend it as a nice place to stay.

We stayed in the Marcarini B&B during the Easter holidays and found it very good. Nice rooms and very eager to help. Well positioned to make trips in the Piemonte wine area. Free Wifi and very clean. The breakfast was very good and rich compared to the Italian average. An address we would certainly recommend.

Marcarini is tied in with the winery of the same name. One of the perks is a personal visit to the historic winery in La Morra. The accomodation is a beautiful country home near the town of Neive. We stayed in the suite and I would highly recommend paying up for it. We had a hugh room and private terrace. The place is run by Eliza who is incredible. She makes breakfast, cleans, helps with reservations, does it all - and flawlessly. There are four cool cats that live there with the Marchietti family in a private section of the estate home. There is a hot tub, but no pool. The house is on a traveled road so you hear some road noise. I think the only drawback is that it is a decent drive to get anywhere from here. If your focus is in the Barbaresco area though it is pretty convenient. Very nice place overall.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
THE AGRITURISMO In Neviglie, on the magnificent hills of Barbaresco, amidst thriving vineyards, hazelnut trees, and shaded forest, lies the Agriturismo Marcarini. The beautiful building is the result of scrupulous restoration of the old farmstead "Sargentin" and dates back to the 1800s. Elegant, silent, and full of charm, our agriturismo is an idyllic place of absolute tranquility. Our family looks after it with attention and care, and it is the perfect starting point for discovering the magical surrounding territory, rich in flavors and tradition. We are happy to have you as our guests. Here, you will rediscover how to live according to the rhythms of nature in an atmosphere of pleasant courtesy and unexpected poetry. We will offer you the best for a memorable stay. THE ANCIENT FARMHOUSE The building of today's Agriturismo was once the residence of Vittorio Doglio, a sergeant in the Savoy army in the second half of the 1800s who went by the name "Sargentin," or "little sergeant." As often happens, the name given to this man was soon used in reference to the farmhouse he occupied, which today is the Agriturismo Marcarini. Doglio added considerable wealth and prestige to the farm, renting out its elegant rooms to travelers, in particular to those who partook of the healing properties of Dolcetto and the naturally occurring sulfur water. Enchanted by the beauty of the house and surrounding environment, we acquired the property in 1995. Following reconstruction and recovery works, today the farmhouse has returned to its past splendor. ACCOMODATION The Agriturismo Marcarini has six spacious and welcoming rooms with characteristics that make them each warm, cozy, and unique. Shades and colors were carefully chosen with meticulous attention to detail so as to recreate the traditional atmosphere of the old, noble houses of Piedmont. All rooms are non-smoking, but we dedicate some smoking areas for our guests. Each room is equipped with free Wi-Fi, flatscreen satellite television, comfortable beds, a minibar, and telephone. Four-legged friends are welcome if they are respectful and well behaved. ... more   less
