Run by volunteers Tala Cat Sanctuary would not exist without them. Cats and kittens would be homeless and starve. Please go to their website to make a donation, they desperately need funds for food, bedding, spaying and dealing with numerous ailments. They are preparing for the Winter months at present and are appealing for Waterproof coverings for the roof and floors. There are not many Tourists in the winter months so times are extremely hard. Please visit and donate if you can. You can donate onsite or via their website.

We've been visiting the region for several years and always enjoyed trips up into the beautiful hills to the monastery and especially the cats that lived there. Well times move on I guess and the cats no longer became compatible with the hygiene regulations of the visitor facilities at the monastery so the cats have been moved just down the road to some different land donated by the monastery. (Please feel free to correct me on the accuracy of my assumptions).
Anyway we couldn't resist seeing the cats again in their new home when we visited last week. First thing you're struck with is the number of cats. Our hosts informed us there were about 250! There are cats of all ages there from old warriors to sweet little kittens. The vast majority of them crave your attention and we had several sitting on our laps at a time during the time we were there. The VOLUNTEERS who run this place are clearly dedicated to the cats and their welfare. Despite the size of the park and the numbers of cats present it was remarkably clean.
If you are visiting the area I strongly recommend dropping in if you love cats, they are genuinely affectionate and in dire need of help. They welcome visitors bringing dry cat food and considering there's no charge to visit these beautiful cats we were very happy to make a much needed donation to help these lovely ladies afford the costs of keeping these cats in food, shelter and medical care.

We drove past the cats on our way to the monastery and decided to call in on the way back.
I've never seen so many cats in one place before!!
The cats just loved the attention from the visitors and you are able to roam freely with them.
The people who look after these cats are just wonderful to care for all the unwanted strays; they have plenty of food and places to sleep and be comfy.
If we return to Tala again I would definitely return with goodies for the cats.

We fell upon this place after first visiting the Monastery just up the hill.
At first we thought it was going to be some type of petting area.
Its is, but this is a place where abandoned cats can have all their needs met by local volunteers and is totally run from donations. Dawn who Co ordinates the feeding and medical care of these beautiful animals does so through the goodness of her heart. Last years she managed to rehome some 80 cats. This is amazing considering the rate at what these cats are being abandoned.
Dawn does not get paid for what she does and takes amazing care of all the animals.
Unfortunately as Cypriots do not believe in neutering cats there is an abundance of kittens and Dawn and her volunteers to an amazing job.
No donations are expected when you visit. Just petting and giving the cats and kittens some love and attention is enough. But they are happy to receive anything from as little as 1 Euro.
Myself, partner and daughter loved this place and returned many times to help feed and pet the animals. If you love animals, especially cats this is a must.
