“Paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 November 2013

Don't believe the photos -its much better!
If you're looking for a relaxing holiday in paradise go to Vilamendhoo it is heaven.
After much research/deliberation we choose this island and we stayed in a detached Jacuzzi beach villa on the north side and it was perfect.
Open the curtains and you can see the sea -wonderful!
This meant that we were in the adults only section of the island and eat our meals in the Alhima Restaurant which serves the same food as the Funami but is much smaller.
Your room boy attends twice a day to clean/restock minibar/change towels/turn down bed but is not intrusive. You are also allocated your own waiter in the restaurant who serves your drinks.
Tipping is expected but worth every cent as the staff can't do enough for you.
The food was delicious -There was a curry corner serving 3 curries every lunch & dinner but a wide variety of other foods including fish/meat/vegetarian. We were spoilt for choice and unlike some buffet restaurants the food was not repetitive, All the bread was baked on site -still warm and hard to resist.as were all the fantastic deserts.
Entertainment is good/average and is mainly in the Bothi Bar. Karoke/Crab racing/cultural nights
A very good band plays on Thursday and the same guys play soft music in the sunset bar on a Friday. The local/guest football match on a Sunday was good fun.
You can walk around the island in 20mins or if feeling energetic Kayak in 40.
A lot of emphasis is put on snorkelling but you have to exit the reef at a certain point and enter further along the reef -the current can be strong so beware. The fish that you see even in shallow water are amazing -reef sharks stingrays parrot fish humbugs angel fish etc.
The island have a family of herons living there and also fruit bats fly around.
Our only problem whilst there were the mosquitoes were out in force and hungry! so go prepared - don't forget the high factor sun cream as the sun is very strong and its easy to burn.
Leave the posh shoes at home -most people walk around barefoot as reception/bars/restaurants are all sand-at the most take cheap flipflops
Thanks to previous trip advisor review wine is now included in mini bar as is beer soft drinks water tea and coffee on the all inclusive plan Spirits Sweets Juices also avaliable but expensive, Drinks in bars were good and plentiful! Beer wine local spirits and some cocktails -the only thing that would make it better would be branded spirits.
All in all a fantastic holiday and thanks to Lou (Thomson Rep) and all the staff particularly Shazy and Haleem for a wonderful holiday and making my husbands birthday very special.
Highly Recomended

Room Tip: Jacuzzi beach villa north side of the island -best beach-adults only-allocated sun beds-well worth t...

My wife and I travelled by Thomson Dreamliner on its first trip to Male. We upgraded to Premium and found it to be an excellent trip for both legs. Yes you can get better cabin crew but then they are there to save your [--] not kiss it!! For the price though well worth it.
Faultless transfers from International Airport to Seaplane terminal where you get free wi-fi (if you need it) as well as cold and hot drinks in air con room. We did not wait long before being transported by small coach to our plane. 14 of us travelled on the short journey to Villamendhoo. A real experience and one not to be missed. We had packed extras in our hand luggage (ie toothbrush, toothpaste, clothes etc) having read previous reviews about luggage arriving later. However both our cases arrived on our flight. Not everyone’s did though so make sure you have a backup plan. On landing we were taken in a Dhoni to the jetty and then given a cold towel and a cold coconut with straw in to drink. After a short wait we were taken to our room, a JWV (314). A fantastic room which exceeded my expectations and I have stayed at some amazing hotels. Room 314 was at the elbow of the walkway half way along and so had a good clear area of lagoon in front of it on the Southside. From noon the sun was on the decking until sunset.
THE JACUZZI WATER VILLA
A really good sized villa with air con and fan. On entering the front door you are in the dressing area/wardrobe area. Plenty of drawers and room for clothes and storing cases. There is a dressing table with mirror and better lights. Next to it is also a full length mirror. There is a room safe which is free. The hairdryer is low wattage (1200) and not much good for the girls. The mini bar/coffee area is also here and is refilled daily once you fill your bar bill out with what you have had. It shows what is all inclusive on it. If you leave a note the room boy will leave extra!! There is a Nespresso machine and they leave pods and condensed milk as well as Nescafe sachets. NB If you do not put a pod in the Nespresso machine you just press the button to get hot water from it. At the rear is an enclosed area which has a double sunbed and Jacuzzi in it. It also has a wooden rack for drying clothes. The bathroom opens onto this area. It has no door but the bathroom has a roof over its total area. This is a large shower area with rainfall shower and another removable hand shower attachment to it. The water pressure is great and there are lashings of hot water. There are two sinks and a big mirror. They provide shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, shower caps, cotton buds and soap. The toilet is English type. There is an English plug socket by the sink with electric razor socket. NB All the plug sockets are English three pin type 220/240 volts.
In the bedroom the bed is a massive six footer and was very comfortable. A word of warning though. The edge of the bed is about 5 inches larger than the mattress and is black in colour. The floor is dark wood. So at night your shins sometimes cannot see the edge of the bed. I have the injuries to show for it!! The bed has a settee, coffee table, further dressing table and LCD TV/Unit in the area in front of it.
There are glass double doors onto the decking which has two sunbeds, a parasol and a table with two chairs. There then steps leading directly into the lagoon. A really nice private area to chill..…when you have time!! The beach towels are replaced in your room daily so no need to bring any.
FREE Wifi is available in all rooms and across the resort. I did not use it much but it is very slow at 0.16 mbs download. You can pay to upgrade but the free wifi is fine for web browsing/ e mails.
THE RESORT
We were blown away by the beauty and wildlife. It really is a paradise Robinson Crusoe Island. This can be a beach, lie in the sun type holiday if you wish but if you want there is always something to do. From watching the wildlife on the land such as bats, birds, lizards, dragonflies to watching the fish in the lagoon being rounded up by the sharks or Jack fish. Seeing the stingrays and eagle rays gliding along or octopus hiding itself away it is endless. Snorkelling in the lagoon or off the reef is amazing and has to be seen to be believed. We also spent a lot of time Kayaking around the Island each day which is so satisfying and is included in the all-inclusive package.
We ate in the Ahima restaurant being in the adults only section and the food was of excellent quality with a massive variety of food. Vegetarians, fish eaters or meat eaters need not worry. There are numerous choices for everyone. Over two weeks we never felt we were eating the same old food. Our waiter Meezad was a credit to the company and his service was exceptional.
We both used the Spa which had good service and was good value for money.
The resort really is beautiful and I cannot fault it. Those that say about staff not smiling or being attentive need to understand different cultures. The staff are very well trained and their aim is to please.
For two of the nights we left our room and went with four other couples on the Resort Gullet (the two mast wooden ship) called ‘Gomafulhu’. This was a free all inclusive trip and if you get the chance do not miss it. We saw/swam with whale sharks, Manta rays, Turtles and saw numerous dolphins. We were also treated like kings and queens by the Captain and his staff and were so so entertained by Izzy our quide. He was fantastic and his enthusiasm never waned even when it rained all day!! If you do go get sea sickness tablets from the resort doctor for $5 before you go…just in case. They are much better than anything you can buy in the UK. Special thanks to our shipmates Dave, Lynda, Cliff, Janet, Rich, Carol, Bjarne and Hannah for being a great crowd. We loved your company.
My wife went to Vilamendhoo in 18 years ago so has seen the change with new ownership. She was very impressed with how they have developed the resort. This is the perfect combination of resort and nature without it being to over the top. We were invited to a returners cocktail party each week which was a nice touch and she was given a returners t-shirt.
It will not be long before we are back again so Vilamendhoo keep two of those t-shirts in stock for us!!

Dear Vards,

Sunny greetings from Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa!

Thank you very much for taking time giving us a detailed review of your holiday with us.
I am so pleased that you had a great stay with us. Without a doubt the experience of sea plane is a unique experience and Ariel view of Maldives is pure beauty.

Indeed the view and amenities of the Jacuzzi Water Villas are an ideal choice for our guests.
We are currently working on covering the edge of the bed with soft cushion to help the guests to avoid injuries.

As you have mentioned we have increased the value of All Inclusive Plus with wines included in the package. Free WIFI is appreciated by all of our guests and we are trying to improve the speed with our network provider but due to the geographical archipelago of Maldives it is a challenge.

Since we took over the management of the island 3 years ago, we have given the priority to keep the island’s flora and fauna as it was despite with the new development to bring the facilities of the island up to date. And we have snorkelling guidelines, reef protection plan and beach replenishing programs to ensure we deal with natural reactions due to the change of climate to the Maldives.

Thank you for appreciating the service of our team who are very efficient and genuinely friendly.
Vards, please contact me if there is anything I can do to help plan a future visit.

This resort was heaven on earth. This was the first stop on our honeymoon. It was worth the 46hrs of travel. The locals are amazing people. We had a bungalow on the water and it was stunning. Immaculately clean. Our room attendent Moosa was awesome. The food at the buffet was quite good and never got bored of it. Great variety. Our waiter Tauheed was very attentive. Pictures does not do it justice. The sea life was incredible. This vacation will be very hard to beat. Already want to go back to paradise.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money on a bungalow if you can, you won't be sorry.

Wow!! Vilamendhoo is an incredible place, with everything you need to enjoy a proper paradise island holiday. The reef is in near pristine condition, with such a variety of life that every snorkel adventure is different - we saw every fish imaginable, sharks, rays, stunning corals and a good range of weird and wonderful sponges, Christmas tree worms and starfish! The jacuzzi beach villas were spacious and luxurious, Shazzy kept ours clean, fully stocked and somehow did it without being intrusive, top marks! The Ahima restaurant was phenomenal, excellent food, a big fantastic effort on Halloween made us all smile and special mentions to Hassan and Fakhira for making our holiday extra fun! The Asian Wok was great for an evening drink and we tried the tepanyaki which was great fun and well worth a visit. All the staff there, and at the Sunset bar were brilliant.
We went on the whale shark trip and saw TWO! Absolutely stunning to watch and a very humbling experience. We also saw mantas on the same trip - a very lucky day! We tried out the kayaks (great fun), windsurfing (hilariously poor attempts at standing up) and went to the spa (lovely, just what we needed!). We also did a fluo night snorkel with the very knowledgeable Mel, who made it easy for us to spot things and kept an eye on us (it's very dark and a little weird out there at night!). Well worth it, it was like nothing I have ever experienced before!
The evening entertainment was nice, obviously its not Ibiza but the band who played a couple of nights a week were excellent and the cultural nights, crab racing and karaoke are there for you to join in and have a laugh.
A perfect holiday...we'll be back one day. In the meantime, please don't stand on the coral!

We stayed here for 2 weeks from the 20th October and flew with Thomson's up graded n the flights as it was a special birthday for me. The flight was god no problems and the sea plane transfer was great and smooth fantastic views all the way to Vila. We were one of the first to arrive about 10.30 and had t wait until 1.00 for our room not a problem took advice from the forum and had shorts and things in our carry on luggage. We were in room 183 which was great single beach villa only 10 yards from the beach (amazing). The villa it`s self was spotless and kept that way all through our holiday. The meals were a pleasure and everything was well laid out with so much choice for every meal, after 3 days we never went for lunch as it was too much for us so we would have a snack from the bar instead the toasties were great and just enough to see us through to evening meal time. Our waiter new exactly what we wanted t drink after 2 days for breakfast and evening meals and was very attentive.
The snorkelling was out of this world I have been to Egypt and Caribbean but this reef was the best ever every time you went out there was always something different t see.
We went on the Ocean Discovery day trip witch was amazing swimming with manta rays and whale shark, I will never forget the experience and the crew and guide were some of the best people we have been on trips with and the food was brilliant they did for us thank you all.
The drinks on the all inclusive were great and the service outstanding they would not let you get your own and would bring your drinks to you and never forgot what you were drinking.
We would go back but still want to see more of the world but if we go back t the Maldives this would be where.
We got the Dreamliner on the way back only just as we were nearly 3 hours late getting off the island but the experience was well worth it.

Visited villamendhoo last week in October and first week November, my expectations were high as we booked trip in January and had been reading reviews avidly since. I was NOT disappointed... the wow factor started as soon as the sea plane landed on a impossibly blue sea, as we were boated ashore, small reef sharks were rounding up shoals of fish near the jetty. Check in was fast and efficient and we were soon in our room, 15 paces or so to the sea! Rooms our excellent size and furnished very well as is the outdoors bathroom. The moment i put my head underwater and took my first look at the reef i was amazed!! The variety of different species was more than i ever expected. The drop off some 20 yards out was a bit daunting to start with but soon overcome, i had read about overbooking and sometimes the chance to stay on the yacht for a couple of nights, luckily we got the chance and it was fantastic, the crew were amazing, nothing was too much trouble and got to swim with 20+mantas and 3 whalesharks, fishing in the evening as well as beach barbecue, a real highlight of our stay. The staff throughout the resort were without exception fantastic, the food good, must be one of the most relaxing holidays i have ever had. Besides the odd bit of reef rage trying to get people to stop standing on the coral?! No brits I'm glad to say, might be a idea to put more notices up in more languages to try to stop it!! Overall fantastic place. Asian wok was a favourite, very good food and watching the sharks, rays, jacks coming in at sunset was a nightly treat. Would love to go back definitely

Just returned from 2 weeks in paradise with my husband, twin sister and her husband celebrating 40th and 41st birthdays and life! What an amazing island, we have been to the Maldives before but this surpassed everything, the house reef is in great condition it goes round the whole island and is very accessible through points marked by orange buoys so you should never have to go on the reef or damage it at all, still managed to see some idiots standing on it tho! Loads of fish species, corals and baby sharks, rays and an elusive turtle!
Our jacuzzi beach villa at the adult only end was perfect, outdoor bathroom was well appointed with shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and a jacuzzi that could fit 4! Shazzy our room lad was attentive and smiley, everything was clean and tidy with the minibar restocked at least once a day. We also had lovely neighbours Nick and Ju who were a good laugh and made our time there even better. The occasional child would wander thro with its parents but most were very well behaved, quiet and were just exploring this amazing place.
Our waiter Hassan was also fantastic, he would have a joke with us but was also very professional and attentive, a big shout to Fakhira too, the cheeky girl who made our holiday so special she would stand and talk to us over dinner and taught us so much about Maldivan life, she is a real asset to the island I hope she gets where she wants to be in life, a real special person (the bees knees)!
One note on the restaurants, men aren't allowed to wear sleeveless tops so make sure you pack a few to cover up, women can wear strappy tops.
The food was absolutely amazing, the curries were fantastic and a special thankyou to Ranasingh the omelete man for making the perfect breakfast every morning, i really don't know how the kitchen staff managed to make such lovely food every night, i've never eaten so well, a real treat was the effort they had gone to on halloween night, ghosts and ghouls, marzipan eyeballs and chocolate coffin cake we had great fun making marzipan fangs and scaring the staff!!
The whale shark trip was breathtaking, such gentle beautiful giants, no promises on seeing them but we were lucky and it was a very emotional experience, thanks to Azeem for making us cry!! (so overwhelmed!)
Thanks to Mel too at the dive centre for taking the 4 of us on an amazing fluo snorkel at night with UV lights the corals glow and look amazing, probably only recommended for strong swimmers as it is dark and a bit disorientating!
Expect a couple of showers but mainly sun and a nice breeze, to keep things bearable!
All in all it was perfect and the wonderful staff (especially the sunset bar and Asian Wok crew) were fantastic fun

Room Tip: 210 -212 had most beach but are nearer the sunset bar

Sunny greetings to you from Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa!

Thank you for your generous feedback about your recent holiday with us.

We will convey your compliments to our team and we will highlight your good
comments on our team meetings.

As you have mentioned that orange buoys help guests to identify the exits
to the reef and it protects the reef.

Once again, thank you for listing us as the top resort from the islands that you have been
in the Maldives.

We look forward to welcome you back to Vilamendhoo in a near future.
