A very warm welcome from Elerai, a welcome lift from Meifod (on Glyndwr's Way), helpful explanations of facilities and equipment in a comfortably furnished bedroom, a generous freshly cooked breakfast on demand (with homemade bread and preserves - all delicious), a fantastic evening meal of lamb shanks, new potatoes, broccoli (as requested), carrots and peas, followed by a choice of two lovely homemade puddings (seconds available - if you have room), fresh coffee and After Eight mints. Good Yorkshire portions of very well prepared food to sustain two hungry long distance walkers. Couldn't have asked for or expected more - wonderful. Just one word of warning - after Elerai's hospitality, other bed and breakfasts may be a disappointment!

We stayed for one night at Tan y Graig while walking Glyndwr’s Way; it is a little way off the route but Eleri collected us from the village and drove us back to the start in the morning. She is a most helpful and attentive host, nothing seemed too much trouble. We had a very good supper with loads of fresh vegetables – just what we’d asked for. The bedroom was large, comfortable and spotless with views over the attractive garden and the bird feeder with the resident woodpecker! We had an early breakfast which was substantial and freshly cooked with local ingredients. Our packed lunches were also substantial, made to order and very tasty – more than enough to sustain us through the final stage of the walk to Welshpool. Many thanks.

My wife and I recently spent two nights at Tan y Graig and were delighted that we chose this bed and breakfast. The house is an old smallholding which the owners have tastefully renovated and extended to provide all modern comforts. The minute we stepped into the old flagstone hallway we sensed the age and history . We were met by David and Eleri who immediately made us feel very welcome and at ease. Our bedroom was large and spotlessly clean as was the whole house. The décor was neutral and very relaxing and the en suite shower was very welcome after a day exploring the area. We thought of going down the local pub for an evening meal but fortunately on both nights we stayed in Tan y Graig . Eleri is a fist class cook, do not go out for your meal !
The house lies on the hillside above the Vyrnwy valley and is in a very beautiful area with rolling hills visible from our bedroom windows, rural and unspoilt bliss ! Fortunately the weather was excellent and we spent time in the delightful gardens just soaking up the sun and the surroundings, lots of seats to sit on. We have stayed in hotels throughout Europe and this little B&B is up there amongst the best. We just loved the atmosphere in the house .
We visited the lovely little town of Welshpool with its superb old buildings but really there is so much to do in the area that we didn’t have enough time there. We will be back !

Room Tip: We stayed in the double, fine views from both windows.

We booked a weekend getaway here and could not have stayed in a better place. We were looked after above and beyond the call of duty by Eleri when a bit of self inflicted mountain trouble made us late and the B&B is perfect. The rooms are immaculate and comfortable with some lovely personal touches and the breakfasts are wonderful. Can't praise it highly enough. It is also in a beautiful and peaceful setting. What more could you want? We will certainly be going back - Eleri and Tan y Graig set the benchmark for other B&B's to aspire to!

My husband booked this little gem as a surprise getaway. I was very pleasantly surprised indeed, firstly that he organised it himself, and, that he had picked such a superb B&B. From the pretty location, with excellent walks, to the wonderful service, everything was of the highest standard. The rooms were well laid out and immaculate. Eleri was a great host and an accomplished cook, we even came away with a couple of her recipes, so be sure to take advantage of every opportunity to sample her culinary skills. I don't imagine it gets any better than this and we plan on going back.

Whoever put about the myth that the Welsh are dour and unwelcoming hadn't met Eleri (or many other Welsh people as far as I can see). From the moment she picked us from the Glyndwr Way to the moment she dropped us back there, the experience at Tan y Graig was warm and friendly, but well balanced. Eleri responded to us as I think she would every guest - as an individual. Had you been looking to be left to yourself she would have recognised that. To us, enjoying meeting our hosts, she was open and friendly, interested and interesting, and that enabled us to explore some of the interesting and challenging aspects of living in this beautiful but demanding area, a far cry from the cities and big towns in which many of us live as well as enjoying an exceptionally good venue.

The room, facilities, décor and garden were all immaculate and we even had the benefit of Eleri's cooking. That's a tip for Travellers. You're unlikely to get a better meal than by asking her if she's cooking the night you're there. Just having breakfast is not enough!

This is the sort of B&B where you feel 5 stars is not enough. Like GCSEs and A Levels we should have a 5 star star to differentiate the merely excellent from the truly exceptional.
