Cafe serves excellent food and you can sit on the veranda overlooking lake in summer. Great for walking or cycling and can hire or take your own bikes. Good play areas for children and can take a picnic.

Graham is a great day out for the family, being an approx 1200 acres of man made lake. With ample parking and a cycle hire centre, you can spend the day either on foot or cycling around the lake. There is a sailing club if you are interested in boats, and a fly fishing club where boats can be hired for the day.
The cycle path which skirts the lake does include some main roads but they are not to busy traffic wise. There is plenty of wild life with various birds stopping at the lake to feed. There are a few areas where fossils can be found as well as a variety of picnic areas.
The A1 is within easy reach so access is good, a great day out what ever your interests are.

After driving through what is a fairly uninspiring rural landscape in this part of west Cambridgeshire, Grafham Water suddenly appears in a shallow valley and presents a sizable man-made lake that is great for taking a picnic or pursuing a range of outdoor activities. It's about a ten mile walk around the perimeter, partly by roads but mainly using footpaths and cycle tracks.

I first came across it one day when I was taking my two sons out for a drive. We stopped at the visitor centre and then decided to hire a tandem and a bike from the nearby rental cabin for a spin around the lake. It was great fun, really safe as there was hardly any traffc and good exercise (it's not all flat and a little effort is needed). The circular route provides a range of views from open countryside to broadleaf woodlands and passes through two small villages. About half way round you can also get refreshments (by the boating compound) or alternatively drop into a nearby pub.

Worth spending some quality time with the family but choose a dry day as there's little cover if it rains.

Grafham Water is our local reservoir - sound a little basic but actually it's a lovely venue for a walk or a bike ride. There are bikes for hire or you can take your own. We chose a brisk walk on the path round the water. It was a little muddy in places so wearing sturdy shoes is a must but in most places the path is a crushed stone surface which keeps it dry and easy to walk on.
The scenery is lovely and the lake-side path is sheltered (on most of the walk except over the dam).
It's about an 8 mile walk around the lake and there is a charge for parking your car (£2-3 per day). I'd recommend going with friends and parking one car at one carpark and starting your walk from the next carpark - unless you're feeling fit!
