“A hidden Gem”
Reviewed 7 November 2011

We came upon this Pub by accident on a journey and were looking for a light pub meal. We were exremely pleased with our find. We ate from the light lunch and early evening menu. The full menu giver the impression that it is changed daily but not having been there before cannot comment on the truth of this. We had pea and ham soup for starters which was very tasty and contained chunks of ham. we followed this with the pub's own burger with trimmings and this was also a very tasty course. As we were on a tight time schedule we were unable (and a little too full!!) to sample the deserts. We do not feel that we did the place justice and will hope to return in the future when we have more time to have a meal from the full menu. One criticism: the waiting staff were very attentive but slightly too attentive and I felt we were fussed over a little too much being asked several times if everything was fine and did we want another drink. The costings below reflect our light dinner! As we ate inthe evening in November I do not know about outside seating or scenic views!!

“Very enjoyable evening”
Reviewed 30 October 2011

Attracted to what appeared to be a very good groupon voucher we duly arrived at the pub, which has a good reputation as a dining venue when you have actually got there. Bit of a drive from most places. It had really good atmosphere and the bar area was very busy with a mixture of diners waiting to be seated and locals have a drink. Pity the barman was concentrating so hard on dealing with drinks for the dining area that we were ignored for a number of minutes without any acknowledgement, so not a good start. However after a pint of the excellent Digfields Fools Nook this became a minor inconvenience as the welcome from restaurant staff was excellent along with superb service during the meal. The dining area was intimate and every course of the meal was really enjoyable. The kipper pate as a starter followed by the main course of a large piece of mutton, with chop, fondant potatoes, vegetables in a rich sauce which was one of the best meals that i have had in 2011. Three courses were on offer along with a glass of prosecco wine so deserts were duly chosen. These were large and delicious. Memorable evening and will be on the list for a revisit in 2012 - even without the voucher!

“Best Lunch off the A14 in Cambridgeshire”
Reviewed 24 October 2011

We had a super lunch here on a perfect Autumn Saturday. Not quite warm enough to sit outside but just after 12 noon, we were seated at a table in one of the rooms inside this wonderful old building in the heart of the Cambridgeshire countryside.
I should mention that the food we ordered - Arnold Bennett (smoked haddock in an omelette & the house beefburger) was superb.
Service was 5-star. Excellent lunch.

“Absoloutely fantastic!”
Reviewed 14 October 2011

Ignore the negative reviews. Some people just like to complain! The Pheasant is fabulous! The standard of food is up there with the best!

The setting is beautiful, the service a delight - just the right amount of attention and the timings between courses was spot on.

I started with the crab and then followed with the Partridge both of which were suberb. My partner had the squid and then pork cheeks, which I tasted and which were probably the best tasting pork I've had in a long time. We were enjoying the whole experience so much so that we went into the dessert menu full on and ordered the chocolate fondant and clefoutis with the corresponding dessert wines. Again, this was fabulous.

If you like great food in a relaxed and not at all stuffy atmosphere, with polite and attentive staff, in a beautiful setting then look no further.

“Great beer and food”
Reviewed 8 October 2011

I picked this pub from the 'Good beer guide' and only afterwards discovered that it had won Gordon Ramsay's Great British Food award. I started with chicken liver parfait, well chilled, the bread was fresh and warm. Mains: smoked eel with crispy smoked bacon in a stack, very nice - I had never had eel before, but really enjoyed my plate. Creme Brulee was perfect with nice crunchy top - my partner enjoyed his food too, having lamb for starters and mains - but the only criticism he had was that it wasn't hot enough. Lovely setting, helpful staff - oh and a great well made Bloody Mary complete with celery stick stirrer at £7.50. I would certainly return.
