We had an excellent Sunday lunch - two of us had the Sunday Roast & one had the lamb stew with dumplings & were all of the opinion it was home-made as in fully prepared & cooked on the premises. The Yorkshire Puddings were just perfect with nice thick rich gravy. The Etonian Mess dessert was intriguingly served on a slate. The service was prompt & friendly (apart from "you guys"!!) & the background music perfect for my taste. We'd certainly recommend it to anyone visiting Skipton. Tip - if you can't make up your mind which Roast to have between the Beef, Pork & super tender Lamb, you can ask them for a mixed Roast & then you get to choose.

We recently stayed over for a few days in Cononley just outside Skipton. Using the internet, we booked a meal at The Wooly Sheep in Skipton, what a great choice we made. This really is one of those Yorkshire Pubs you'd love to visit, the building is quaint and unspoilt with a great selection of ales and beers.
The dining area is back at the rear of the pub, again, lovely area, nothing too clinical or cheap, just right. It's quite clear a lot of attention is invested in this place, we felt very comfortable there and relaxed. ALL the staff are excellent and have good knowledge of the food, wines etc. The food, is stunning. Not quite fine dining, but then it isn't trying to be. Not your usual pub grub either, a very well thought out and cooked menu should suit all tastes.

Top marks here and fail to see how they could deliver nothing short of excellence. Looking forward going back.

We stayed for five nights in a comfortable en-suite where everything worked (!). It was not spacious, but reasonable for the money. Tea/coffee and other supplies were generous and housekeeping helpful and friendly.

The Timothy Taylor beer is excellent and the friendly bar staff manage to appear relaxed and yet always be on top of whatever needed doing. The restaurant staff were mostly excellent -- superb if you are willing to forgive slight slips in presentation. This was very easy as they were all good people, clearly willing to do whatever they could for the sake of the pub.

The staff seems to get on together very well, giving the impression of a happy place to work, and willing to pull together for the sake of the customers. That sort of environment makes a stay very pleasant.

Enjoyed our meal and a couple of nice beers. Nice to get real food, really cooked and not the packaged processed/food technician assembled rubbish most pubs have.

Fresh leek and potato soup,Lamb rump on lyonnaise potatoes with fresh veg, bangers and real mash all good quality, well presented.

The mark off is for waiting over 15 mins for our soup and the fact the food is overly 'heavy' for instance the use of (a lot of) meat stock in the soup and potato dishes. If they eased back on that the dishes would be lighter and better for it.

Service was also good.
