A real piece of history in our own town. The castle is certainly worth a visit. Not just a ruin like other castles. The rooms are empty but all labelled with information of what the room was used for. The stairs can are steep in places for young children so caution is needed. Definitely not for children in prams/ buggys. Saying this, I have taken my young children every Sunday and we have enjoyed every moment of exploring the grounds and castle. The special days that are put on are amazing and my young son treasures the moments of dressing up in chainmail and a helmet, being given a (wooden!) pike to hold. A year's pass is amazing cheap and worth every penny.

I spent a happy hour or so here on a sunny afternoon and enjoyed how intact the castle is. I could imagine tha kids would enjoy charging around and exploring it, as there is plenty of space, and very few fittings so it is not the sort of place you have to creep around. However, there are narrow steps that you need to take care on. The information sheet was very interesting, but if you are looking for a Disney style experience, this is not it! You have to use your own imagination.
Friendly staff, and a reasonable admission fee. There is a pretty walk in the woods behind the castle, full of wild garlic when I was there.

if you're in Skipton or close by then this is somewhere definitely worth visiting. You are free to roam on your own accord or follow the easy picture map/route that you are given as part of your ticket. The map/route takes you on a little tour throughout the whole castle and I imagine would be fun for children also using the map to find the next room. Most rooms (and the print out) offer a short description of what the rooms once were.

only downfall is I would've liked more information on some of the information boards

would recommend

The castle was totally central and small enough to get round in no great a length of time as to take all day but long enough to find it interesting and explore all of the rooms and nooks of the castle!! The tree in the middle was my favourite piece of history but to have the paper sheet to read as it guides you round is perfect an very informative. The staff were all lovely and polite with one gentle man taking time to discuss the history further with groups as the passed the court yard. Reasonably priced an well worth the entrance fee in my opinion. It may not be too interesting to younger children but at the end of the day it's a historic castle and if that doesn't capture their imagination then don't expect much more. In regards to popularity, there was a queue at the entrance waiting for the doors to open and it was an average spring Sunday afternoon not in the school holidays so that for me would tell me it's popularity.

A very worthwhile place to visit, sensibly priced and very interesting. Plenty of worthwhile information to read as you make your way around, although a bit basic you do get a feel for how it was to live there back in the day.
