“Buget Hotel”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

This BB is in need of some TLC , and modernization. The rooms were clean and had a comfortable bed but are very tired looking. The breakfast was very good and freshly cooked with good presentation. It is in a good position in the town and Skipton was a very nice market town to visit with loads of pubs offering good food.
We also found the owner very rude when we asked her about parking, not knowing if the hotel had parking or which was the best car park to use. We were informed that we got the hotel cheap considering the Tour de France was on!!! We got the hotel at the asking price of £60 on the internet!!! This is nothing to do with parking !! We were at bit miffed at this as she still did not advise us on parking, a local advised us. You should be polite to all your guests as you would like them and their friends to come back, we wont be back.

Thank you for your positive comments. We would like to point out that the person you are referring to is a new member of staff and not the owner and we will address the issue and apologize for their lack of knowledge. Thanks again

We were a bit sceptical on arrival - worn out/burnt carpet on the stairs and had to ring the buzzer to get in. A child answered the door by shouting at us and then a slightly put out young man showed us to our room (5) saying they had changed the carpet recently but it needed painting (weird!).

The room itself was VERY basic - a double bed and two singles, there were only two of us sharing and I hate to think how cramped it would have been for 4. The bathroom was very old and the shower went from scorching to freezing at will.

When my mother went out to reception to get the wifi code she was hissed at by the little girl who was running around like a wild thing and the guy on reception was drinking beer.

Overall an unpleasant hotel, although cheap it was definitely not cheap enough to contend with creaky beds, smoky hallways and children running around being rude to paying guests. We did not spend the night and opted to find a hotel that cared more about their guests.

this is more of a b&b than an hotel not that it made any difference to us.
the room food and staff/owners? were all terrific. 50 quid for a double room with a superb breakfast what an absolute bargain in this area. If you are super fussy this may not be for you just yet as the rooms are being refurbished so the older ones are not perfect. Value for money we would rather stay here than pay double for nicer bathroom fittings somewhere else.
will definitely revisit every time we are in Skipton.

Stayed at the Unicorn to recuperate after supporting friends on a 28-hour charity hike around the Dales, and it exceeded all expectations. My room was extremely comfortable, very spacious as was the bathroom with bathtub, and very peaceful despite proximity to the town centre. Staff were welcoming and extremely helpful. Having been awake for the last 34 hours I didn't make it to breakfast, so can only comment on the quality of the room, but I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Top value, top marks. Thanks Unicorn :)

Went with my good friend Stuart and Sybil, my Schnoodle (Poodle/Schnauzer cross) to walk Whernside, highest of the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Needed somewhere for the night to rest our weary bones - and that would accept dogs.

Had to phone Sarah to say we would be late arriving as coming down from mountain harder than going up and missed planned train back from Ribblehead to Skipton. She told us "No problem" - she would be waiting to let us in. Hotel excellently situated near middle of town, and the bus and railway stations. Rooms basic and a bit dated, but clean, beds very comfortable, plenty of hot water from shower and excellent breakfast, cooked to order.

Room only £55 for the three of us - great value - will definitely stay again if in the area. Thanks, Sarah.

Room Tip: Seemed to be only dog-friendly accommodation in Skipton with twin rooms, rather than double.

We stayed here recently and will definitely be back. Lovely warm welcome, very clean and comfortable - we both had a great nights sleep and to top it off breakfast in bed was fantastic. The hotel is in a great spot to explore Skipton and lots of great bars and places to eat near by. There is public parking directly across from the hotel.
The décor is a little dated but this does not affect your stay - in fact I wouldn't want it to be updated to modern décor and flat screen tvs as this would push the price up. £45 room only or £55 inc breakfast makes this place affordable for a spare of the moment get away.
Cant wait to come back and stay with you again and have your lovely brekkie again :)

Stayed here whilst cycling the Leeds Liverpool canal. Arrived cold, wet and covered in mud. The warm welcome we received soon revived our spirits, we were even allowed to wheel out two wheeled mud stallions into the hotel. Our host said something about "don't tell the wife.." the rooms were warm and the radiators dried our soaking clothes. A hearty breakfast the next day had us on our way feeling much mote upbeat. I can't thank the good folks at the unicorn for letting us in to their lovely, family home and guest house. I would recommend to anyone looking for cheap good value accomadation in gods own county and the gateway to the dales, thank you.
