we stayed in the Red Lion Pub on skipton high street on a friday night as my husband had a works event in skipton and we thought it would be nice to stay over, relax and shop there the next day.
We arrived around 7pm( 4 car parking spaces) to a really nice warm greeting from the young manager, He took us up to the room and was really helpful.
The room is one of 3 we had the family room at the front over looking the cobbled high street.
The room is large 2 double beds . large old fashioned wardrobe tv stand chest of drawers and dressing table.
Bedside cabinet with lamp on.
Bathroom with lovely large bath with shower over the bath.
Kettle hairdryer iron.
Tea coffee biscuits galore.
Towels all soft fresh and plenty .
We went down for an evening meal which we chose instead of taking the breakfast option,
two meals from the 2 for £9 menu and a childs meal all included.
We sat in the bar for a while and had a huge hot chocolate which was lovely , the pub atmosphere is really homely and warm.
The Room...
The bed linen was spotless with under cover protectors also.
Beds lovely and comfortable.
The next morning we went to Weatherspoons for our breakfast but saw the pub breakfasts and they looked gorgeous ..
Down Sides.....
The room is very old fashioned and dated and it really is like going to stay in your nannas old spare room.
I wanted to get a cloth and flash and give the skirting boards and window ledge a good clean
The market stalls started setting up just before 6am on a saturday morning right under our window, They finished a little after 9...Not a good start to our morning.
Apart from that we couldnt fault it i just wouldnt stay on a friday if i didnt want the early wake up call....

Room Tip: Dont choose the family room at the front on a friday night

Spent 2 nights in Feb 2014 with my wife and child and we had a fantastic time. The staff could not be more helpful. We stayed in room 1 which was a large family room. Could accommodate 4 adults. Car park at rear small but we got a space all weekend. Breakfast brilliant and very filling and plenty of choice, including the Mexican breakfast. Location 1st class and would stay here again.

If you want a traditional Yorkshire pub with beer and food then don't go here. As far as chains go this is good, we went in on Boxing Day because all the cafes were full. We had hot chocolates (cheaper than other places in town advertised) which was very yummy as were the chips. Admittedly not homemade but for the price, they were crisp and well cooked. They did forget to bring our ketchup that we asked for but the chips didn't need it. Will return.

staff were friendly enough, but the room was very dated, dark and dingy and reminded me of a bedsit. Lamps placed around the room with no plugs nearby and very cold single glazed windows. we were supplied with a portable heater but no plugs available to plug it into.
I appreciate it is a busy pub and the noise in the room was not the problem as we were advised of this prior to booking, but we had an evening meal in with the price of the room that we could not take advantage of due to the music in the pub being at night club level as early as 6pm and we were travelling with our 8 weeks old son for the Christmas market the next day.
I spoke to the manager about this when we checked out and nothing was done to compensate me.

Room Tip: do not travel with children although it says child friendly it is not

We stayed at the red Lion for a Saturday night. the staff were very obliging and tried their best to ensure we enjoyed ourselves. the pub is very nice with loads of space to spread out. The room whilst we thought it was a bit expensive and basic was just what we needed and we slept very well despite our rooms overlooking the noisy street and the bells chiming every quarter of an hour! As we had to catch an earlyish train on Sunday morning the staff again came up trumps and cooked breakfast a little earlier than advertised.
