What a gem.. a local pub with great choice of drinks, great menu.. family friendly and welcomed by the staff and customers.

Sunday lunch... 11 out of 10.. the Yorkshire puddings are made in the kitchen and not in a warehouse in milton keynes! Beef was so tender and perfectly cooked.. veggies were crunchy and tasty. But the Yorkshire puddings and the gravy were home made huge and tasty!!!

Will definitely be back soon.. thoroughly recommended.

My husband and I took my father-in law to Cartmel for a visit, as he's not been there since 1952 and stayed for one night in the Cavendish Arms. It was extremely cold outside, but very warm by the roaring fire in the bar. The rooms were very quirky as you would expect from such an old building, but clean and functional. If I were to visit again I think I would perhaps stay in one of the newer room over Perfect English in the square, for a change. The little restaurant side of the bar was quite charming and the food was very good, I had the pie - which was lovely. All in all, it was a really nice visit and we would love to return.

Pheasant suspiciously chicken like, ran out of chips and served new potatoes with no warning or apology and wife is ill with dodgy stomach a couple of hours after eating at the pub. Bizarrely burger also came with a slice of orange including peel!

Would never recommend to anyone (I don't normally write reviews...this is how strongly I feel about this)
