My wife and I took my daughters and their friends on a narrow boat for the day, I didn't think the kids would be that into it but they all loved it. They helped to open bridges and we stopped for a picnic and all had a really good time. You can go in two different directions with on direction needing a bit more experience regarding bridges or go the more sedate way with no bridges.

The staff were excellent with instruction on how to crew the narrow boat. The slow cruise down the waterway was both relaxing and very scenic. Spotting both Kingfishers and Cormorants. Just a lovely day on the canal.

We loved our day out on Amber. The People at Snaygill were fantastic, friendly and I'm pleased we booked with them.
Daniel was ace, showing us around the boat and giving us a comprehensive briefing before we set off.

Amber was beautiful and really well equipped for a day, with cooker, fridge, kettle, towels and even a supply of tea coffee and sugar. You'll need to remember to bring milk though. it was clean, well maintained and very well presented. It has a toilet on board and comfortable seating with a large fold out table.

There was no map on board but I'm sure if we'd have asked they'd have provided one. I'd already researched where to head to and was aware of the bridges etc. We went in the Gargrave direction, it's really interesting passing through the middle of Skipton before finding yourself out in the beautiful wild open countryside. We made it to the lock in Gargrave ( day boats aren't allowed to pass through locks) before turning around and heading back down to the Snaygill boat yard in good time to get the boat back for 1630.

The kids loved helping and opening the numerous bridges that you have to lift. Especially the one where traffic has to stop to let you through! They are straightforward and easy to get the hang of.

Top tips - have a little read about driving and mooring narrow boats before you go. It's well explained and you soon get the hang of it but I think if you have a read before it will help. I'd sailed before and I think it helped get the hang of steering and mooring a bit easier.

Dress for the weather - it was a cold October day but inside the boat was nice and warm. The person driving will be outside though so remember waterproofs, gloves etc.

Take food with you or stop to eat somewhere in Skipton as we didn't pass any pubs or eating places further along the canal.

Get the family involved as part of your "bridge crew" with someone to operate the bridge, someone to look after ropes etc and someone in charge of the boat.

We all loved it and I'd love to go for longer next time. Thank you to all the Snaygill team!

Just completed a week on Sweet Basil, a great boat and fantastic team at Snaygill, Sean was brilliant. Had done nothing like this before and certainly felt overwhelmed when first going through the locks but happy to say we made it and felt more confident with each day. The countryside from Skipton up to Barnoldswick was amazing and Gargrave and Barnoldswick beautifiul little towns. The boat was compact but very comfortable and cosy, being smaller it was easier to manage through the locks. Well done Snaygill.

Thank you Joy for a really great review, we are so pleased to hear that Sweet Basil & of course, the staff, were well received and that your experience with us was a positive one. You are so right about the amazing little villages you pass through and each one always has something different to offer, we are actually quite lucky to live in such a beautiful place. I had every confidence in you with regards to the locks and I am really happy you managed to conquer them with ease, even if they did look a little daunting at first.

Thank you once again for a really nice review and if your ever in our neck of the woods again, please do pop in to say hello.

Best Wishes,

Sean.

We hired a medium-sized narrowboat (Amber) from Snaygill boats and had an awesome day going up and down the canal. We arrived a little early, after having stayed the previous night in Keighley, but this wasn't a problem for the staff. A friendly young man showed us to our boat and spent some time with us, making sure we knew everything we needed to for a great day out. Tea, coffee and sugar was provided, but take your own milk if you want it. Toilet and kettle on board, hot water for washing up, fairy liquid, tea towels, and loo roll all provided. Excellent will be back

Despite the canal restrictions, we had a lovely long weekend on Juniper. The boat was in good condition and ready for our arrival with a very helpful team of staff to ensure we got off to a good start. This is the second time i have hired from this company, and would happily do so in the future. A lovely part of the country too.

We booked our holiday with Snaygil, very easy to book, great boat, lovely people. We have already booked again for May next year. Took our dog who loves boating. Leeds and Liverpool Canal is really something special, stunning scenery, loads of wild life and great going through the old mills.

Three generations of our family wanted to celebrate one of those birthdays ending with a "0".
Couldn't have chosen a more idyllic way to spend a sunny August day on the canal.
On arrival, we were met by 2 friendly members of staff who took us through the instructions and safety advice with patience, answering any questions we had.
Amber was the ideal small boat for us, as we were all novices. We worked as a team, and thoroughly enjoyed negotiating the different bridges we encountered.
Everything we needed for the day was provided, even the whistling kettle. Loved it.
The wildlife we saw was amazing, especially the herons flying over us.
If you want to get away from everything, in a beautiful, peaceful part of the world, I can thoroughly recommend hiring a boat from Snaygill Boats.....I can't count how many times I was heard saying "this is fantastic!, I don't want it to end"
