“Best hotel in area”

I have stayed here many times and this is the number one choice for me if available. A really good hotel with quality fixtures and fittings. Staff are friendly and helpful, breakfast is good quality, try the smoked haddock with poached egg. If you are looking for a hotel anywhere in the Carmarthen area then this is ideal.

Room Tip: Sorry I clicked swimming pool by accident, there isn't one.

We went for a mid week meal in Carmarthen , but the restaurant was full so decided to pop up to llandeilo to the Cawdor . What a meal we had in the bistro .the two course option was superbly presented on welsh slate plates and the food tasted as good as it looked . I had scallops to start and often restaurants over cook these, but here they were as good as I have ever tasted. The mains were lamb chops , but had a home made mini shepherds pie alongside and all tasted delicious. My wife had the crab and crayfish fish cake to start, which was delicious and the the lamb and raved about it We certainly made the right decision , this is now a serious food destination, and I am normally critical of restaurants in west Wales , and find it difficult to have a good meal out whatever the cost , and normally have to head to Monmouthshire for a really good meal. Any restaurant that makes it's own bread , has to have a flair with its food! Well done .we were not staying but will do next time .

Our last visit here was less than good, but we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Mistake! Once again, customer service was poor. The Manager needs to sort out her phone manner! Breakfast was dreadful. Cheap, weak coffee, what tasted like bargain basement marmalade, a long queue for making your own toast ( it was hardly full...surely the kitchen could manage to make toast?!) 'Fresh fruit' was a few sad specimens in a fruit bowl. Even the cheapest B&B can do better than this.

But biggest issue was access to Wi-Fi. There wasn't any in our room, and very poor reception in the main areas as well. I understand that there may be difficulties because of the age of the building, but please tell people before booking, rather than say it is available when it isn't really. Of 4 staff we dealt with , only one had any idea of good service. Sadly she wasn't the one in charge.

The photos look good and the rooms are nicely styled, but all the money seems to have gone on that, and not good staff, training, or buying decent marmalade!

We gave them a 2nd chance, but this hotel is definitely off our list of places to stay from now on.

I only booked a stay two days before arriving as a last minute overnight break, so glad I chose to stay in The Cawdor, from the moment we arrived at the hotel we were treated like kings, once the booking in process was completed the member of staff automatically took our bags to the room and explain about everything in the room even the magic wardrobe, as it was a very warm day they placed a cooler fan in the room. The room we stayed in was the Pencader with a wonderful chase long which was really comfy.
We dined in the restaurant that evening which as it was a Wednesday they have a special 2 and 3 course menu at a very reasonable rate. The food and service was good, later we sat in the court yard and had a few more drinks to finish off the evening including a nice whisky nightcap. The bed was extremely comfortable and had a lovely night's sleep.
The breakfast chose was plentiful, my husband went for the full English, he didn't know whether to eat it or climb it as there was so much and I had the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs really lovely.
Overall our stay was relaxing sorry I couldn't have stayed there longer.

Room Tip: I would recommend the Pencader, admittedly it is a the front of the hotel and lot of heavy traffic p...

This hotel is well worth a stay. The rooms are decent size with very comfortable bed and gloriously soft pillows. The bathrooms are very modern and equipped with excellent showers (some over the bath, some instead of).

The staff are very friendly bright and helpful and the building itself is old and characterful.

My niggles are around the restaurant. Dinner on Thursday night was in a small side room to the restaurant. This was understandable as the main restaurant is huge and there were only two tables including ours dining that night. Some residents were eating from the bar menu. We felt that our meal lacked a little in the way of atmosphere as a result. On Saturday night the main restaurant was quite busy.

Our menu included a starter of mushroom soup. When it arrived it turned out to be tomato soup. Home made and very good, but not mushroom! The waiter seemed only faintly surprised when we pointed this out. He had gone to some lengths to explain that lamb cutlets would be served pink, which was fine by us. They arrived medium to well done. Again they were good quality but not as expected.

I think someone in the kitchen has watched too many episodes of Masterchef. Much of the food arrived on slate and frequently more complicated than necessary in this sort of establishment. It tasted good but the twists and twiddles became slightly annoying.

Cooked breakfasts are more than generous. I went for the "Full Welsh". Two huge sausages and three large rashers of bacon on their own accounted for almost 3/4 pound of protein. On ensuing days I opted instead for scrambled egg and smoked salmon. Again a large helping but very good and not quite so overpowering. Incidentally they make their own bread and it is delicious.

LLandeilo itself is a pleasant base. The town has some nice shops and delightful views from Crescent Road. The surrounding countryside is lush green and attractive. There are plenty of local attractions.

We came on a Sunday. And we booked the room 19 suite. And because we stayed on Sunday the room was half price. The room was AMAZING!!!! Spacious, clean, cozy and a lovely view from the window. The bath was big and the shower was a two person shower.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. They would go the extra mile for you. The food we had was off the bar menu. And it was superb. We both had the welsh burger topped with pulled pork and chips/ salad for a side. Even though the main restaurant was closed for the evening. The choices on the bar menu were extensive with good value for money.
Defently recommend this place!!!!

My husband and I stayed at The Cawdor last week and would highly recommend it. We stayed in room 19 called dinefwr, which had a traditional feel to it with wood beams and a very large bathroom with a shower to die for! The views were fantastic of the countryside. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome, check in was quick and easy. We had dinner in the hotel which was excellent, the food was amazing so top marks to the chef. We would recommend this hotel and it's sister hotel Morgans in Swansea.

Room Tip: Room 19, dinefrw was lovely and had a window seat looking out onto the countryside which was great.
