“Romantic Old Ruined Castle & its FREE”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

The castle is located next to the river Tywi, the car park is also a good picnic spot. It is quite a climb up to the castle ruins, but there are seats along the way if you need a break & the views are well worth the climb. We could see Paxton's Tower above us. We visited about 9.45 on a weekday morning and had the place to ourselves most of the time.

My current favourite place in the world, great views in the morning up the valley looking through the low mist watching the sun rise. Great views in the evening watching the sun set.
Car park at bottom of castle hill, 10 minute walk up to castle. Lots of rolling grass for picnics, free entry.

“Lovely castle!”
Reviewed 9 October 2013

We visited this Castle on the way to Dinefwr Castle. It is sitting on a hill, lovely view...unfortunately not much left from it. We were so lucky, nobody was there at the time when we were there, car park opposite by the little river.
Worth to visit!! Surprisingly it was no admission fee!

“Not for the unfit!”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

Park over the road & struggle to the top for wonderful views - on a clear day the whole valley is revealed & you can see why it was built.

“Picturesque castle by the river”
Reviewed 29 August 2013

It's a steep climb up but well worth it for the views from this ruined castle, on a hill over the lovely river valley. The site is bigger than it looks, and if you use your imagination you can see how important it was. There are no facilities, just a pleasant picnic site and car park by the river.
