“A real gem with great character”
Reviewed 4 February 2012

We were a bit apprehensive about booking this hotel as the hotel's website put great emphasis on weddings - a deterent for us as it implies both noise and crowds. Furthermore we could not find a photo of the outside of the hotel on the hotel's website which is a shame as its such a lovely historic house. In the end we only booked one night and were sad that we had chosen to move on for the second night.

The hotel has a wonderful historic character and the reception area/sitting room is really welcoming with a lovely wood burning stove. We had a very comfortable room overlooking the front of the house. It was spacious and well equipped with a lovely bathroom with bath and overhead shower. Breakfast was very good. Internet access works well in the general sitting room area and the hotel has good mobile coverage.

We dined in Harrys bar. I had a delicious liver pate followed by equally good fish cakes.

This place is a gem at an affordable price and is to be highly recommended! The hotel should improve its website to give a better idea of what the hotel looks like. Furthermore, it is unlikely that the hotel would be able to accommodate guests outside of a wedding party during a wedding as the hotel isn't large enough. If this is the case, they should point this out on their website.

We ate in here recently, entering there was a lovely open fire burning which was so cosy. However when we sat at our table we were freezing! luckily we managed to move to the table opposite the fireplace before we got our dinner!

The two girls waiting that night were very friendly and welcoming and attended to our needs very well. We ordered from the meal deal for £9.99 which is one starter and main or one main and dessert.

There was i would say a longer than average wait but we were cosy by the fire so didn't mind so much. I had the beef teriyaki and my collegue had the italian chicken for the mains. The beef was very tasty, altho there was a slight tinge of burntness from the beef, the sauce was made very watery and there wasnt many veg in the dish- cut backs i guess for the price of the meal! I did enjoy it though and so did the person with me eating the chicken.

We didnt have to wait very long on the dessert, again this was a small portion size but was good value i guess. I got the heated choc fudge cake. You get a small slice with a miniture scoop of ice cream, i would rate it average as the choc cake was quite dry and for the very small scoop which you are given!

I would possibly consider going back, i would however order from the main menu and perhaps not from the meal deal!

Have enjoyed the hotel for many years. They have made some changes to the restaurant which may suit some but for me the old was best..maybe its my age!!! Its got a great reception area with log fire burning in the winter which is great. Food has improved with new restaurant and the staff are very friendly, thay take good care of you. Its an ideal location for a weekend break very relaxing. This hotel has received many awards over the past number of years and fukky deserved. Would recommend.

I stayed at this hotel for three nights on business and I can only say I wish my trip had been a lot longer, I was greeted on the first night by very friendly staff who made me feel extremely welcome as they did throughout my stay. Anything I wanted was not a problem a very quickly provided. The accomadation is spotlessly clean, warm and very comfortable. The food is nothing but excellent, extremly fresh and beutifully presented, it is brought to the table by staff who genuinely want you to enjoy the experience. I met one of the chefs in the grounds and he was a friendly as the rest of the staff. Why this hotel has not got a michelin star amazes me. The front of house who have several awards, deserve a lot more. Thank you all for a very comfortable stay and I look forward to seeing you all again.

We stayed one night to attend a wedding and were very disappointed with the hotel. Lovely location and venue for a wedding but the standard of the food and the accommodation bears no relation with the publicity put out by the hotel. Plus, it is very over-priced; we paid £95 for B+B- you can get a 5star hotel in Belfast for much less.

The room, sandwiched between two storage rooms for the cleaners, was so small and cramped that two of us could not walk around at the same time. It should have been sold as a single room and was certainly not a double. The furniture was old and stained, bedside lamps with broken shades hanging off and a musty old wardrobe. The bathroom was simply ancient with no storage space for toiletries and the hardest worn-out towels I've ever seen. The bin had not been emptied and the bath was so stained that we didn't even use it.

Was woken early in the morning by banging doors and the noise from delivery vans-impossible to sleep.

Breakfast was truly appalling. Had to ask for a glass of water four times before one was brought to the table. Same for tea, we had to remind the waiters several times until eventually, one appeared with an industrial-sized pot and proceed to pour us a tiny cup of cold stewed tea and took the pot back to the kitchen. Breakfast food was awful. Bacon rock hard -burnt and clearly reheated several times. Eggs tasted of detergent, only bread available was standard white processed slices. Left almost all on our plates but no-one asked why we haven't eaten anything. There were hardly any other guests at the time we were in the dining-room so it was not a case of being busy, simply that the untrained obviously casual staff hadn't a clue.

AT £95 for one night, this level of service, room and food quality is just unacceptable. Do not stay in this hotel if you can avoid it-even if you are attending a wedding.

Room Tip: Don't stay here at all.

We booked an appointment with the Tullylagan to view it for a Wedding Venue. I must say it was reall yamazing driving in to the grounds and seeing the main house. We were greeted by a really friendly front of house we were offered coffee and given booklets and photos of previous Weddings. We met with Mary who was so lovely and calm. She showed us round the lovely hotel and she give us the history of the hotel and the connection with the massey ferguson tractors! We were so impressed with the whole hotel the atmosphere and the staff. We seen the bridal suite it was beautiful I'm really looking forward to bringing my parents to see the hotel very soon. Thank you Mary for your attention to detail look forward to seeing the hotel really soon :)
