“Very dissappointed.”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

Some years before we had honeymooned at Dobbins Inn in Carrickfergus and had over the years thought about returning.
At our wedding anniversary celebration in London our children surprised us with a weeks holiday at you know where with flights and car hire included.
We were delighted to have been given such a lovely present.
Well the flights dirty, disgrace.
Although we didn't pay for it, its not a cheap place to stay so you expect a certain minimum standard.
Its dirty down at heel and I looked at 4 rooms before I asked my husband if we could put up with what was on offer.
Its one of the few occasions that white lies have been acceptable to us as we never let on to our children how this accommodation spoilt our holiday gift in Northern Ireland
There is nothing that we could recommend this place for other than demolition or a complete makeover, it gets one star because I don't suppose no stars count.

Room Tip: Find a different place to stay unless the dump is totally refurbished!

Dear Guest,

Was very disappointed your read your comments and sorry that it was not what you expected.
It is not a familiar booking and we are unable to place your stay. If you would email us directly on bookingdobbins@btconnect.com or call on 02893351905 we could discuss the matter in better detail.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in February with my wife and two kids. Very friendly staff, rooms are of a good size and spotless. Food was of excellent quality and good portions.
Highly recommended and we will definately be coming back, maybe when the weather is a bit warmer!

I stayed at this hotel at the end of January. What a lovely friendly hotel, recieved a warm welcome. The rooms are a good size and very clean. I was visiting with my family and we had 2 children aged 5 and 8 and the hotel is very family friendly. We had lunch in the bar which served the best soup I had had in ages, They have a restaurant Las Rosas which serves modern food European food, I had the deep friend squid and steak which was very good, they had a good childrens menu as Kellie who is a fussy 5 year old left her plate clean. Good vaule for moeny and well appointed hotel. Well worth a visit.

Once again another lovely meal, we were with my parents this time who both enjoyed their meals, they also commented on how friendly and helpful the staff were. My husband had the Mexican burger and has not stopped talking about it, and hopes it goes on the new menu.

My wife and I booked a Saturday night stay. Our double room was a little bit on the small side, however the bathroom was spacious. You accessed the bathroom with 3 steep steps and guide rails were offered if required. Not an issue for us, but someone with restricted mobility could struggle. The building is hundreds of years old, so the unconventional room layout merely adds to the character of the place. The decor was somewhat traditional, but not dated. Everything was spotlessly clean and fresh. We both found the bed really comfortable.
Before we retired for the night, we were informed that our room (No. 21) was haunted! Not something that my wife wanted to hear....but we still had a lovely peaceful sleep.
The bar is one of the oldest in Northern Ireland and it looked it. Full of charm, exposed rafters with an open coal fire. Old worldly and very homely. We decided to try the food and ordered two steak dinners with a bottle of wine for £25. The steak was cooked how we asked and everything was really tasty, excellent value. The cooked breakfast was really good too. This isn't fine dining, but just really tasty food.
The locals in the bar were friendly and we struck up a number of conversations with different regulars. We hadn't intended to stay in the bar, but we ended up doing just that because we really enjoyed the atmosphere of the place. The craic was good.
The staff are a particular asset to Dobbins, very friendly and the service was excellent.
The hotel is on the Main Street. While the location is perfect, parking is restricted. We parked at a nearby public carpark adjacent to the Castle, which took 3-4 minutes to walk too.
This hotel has character and charm. Nice friendly staff. Very homely. We think its a hidden gem.

Room Tip: Room No. 21 is supposedly haunted by a woman from the 15th century!
