I had to organise an anniversary function and the staff of Dobbins were extremely helpful in accommodating our groups requirements. The menu was extensive and the food was excellent and very reasonably priced. All those at the function were very complimentary about the venue, food and the staff.

Visiting here with three other people I was very surprised to see how busy the restaurant was even on a Wednesday night. It was obvious that it is a place where families go out for their dinners. And no wonder because this quaint old hotel has a very warm, friendly and almost homely atmosphere that hits you as soon as you step inside. I had the duck with stir fried vegetables which together with champ was very tasty indeed.

The rest of the party all had the lasagne which all seemed to go down very well indeed. For the dessert we just could not make up our mind which one to go for so when the very attentive waitress suggested a selection of 4 kinds of mini desserts we happily went for that. A very good choice indeed.

My wife and I (and our dog, Jack) have just had an excellent 3 nights at this beautiful hotel that is full of character. It has a few idiosyncrasies previously mentioned in other reviews but these just add to its unique and personal character. The staff couldn't have been more friendly, helpful and efficient.
The breakfast was in keeping with everything else in this hotel, unique and very enjoyable.
The bar area was IMHO perfectly in keeping with such an old and historical building and is an excellent environment to enjoy a perfectly kept pint of Guinness.
To sum up... a friendly, family run hotel that allows you to enjoy fantastic Northern Irish hospitality.

I visited here recently with my young daughter and two friends and we had a lovely evening meal. Three of us had lasanga and garlic bites and my other friend had half a duck with a stir fry. The staff were friendly and attentive and we enjoyed looking at the artwork and nautical themes around the bar area. The desserts were delicious, see my photo, you could get three mini desserts on one plate! I hope to call again soon, you don't have to book a room to eat here.

Spent a long weekend at the Dobbins and ate and drank there each night .
The staff are all naturally polite and friendly and can't do enough for you without getting in your face with the "is everything alright " vacant rubbish you get from hotels which are manned by robots . A lovely , basic friendly base for a great break and the drive around the coast to the Giants Causeway at Bushmills is without the best drive of my life .
Thank you .

Room Tip: If you enjoy an early night ,don't have the room over the bar (obviously)

The positives:

The staff were very good and couldn't do enough from printing out our return flight boarding tickets to lending me an umbrella.
The beds and pillows were very comfy
The breakfast is good - although only served until 9am

The negatives:

The whole hotel has a very "tired" feel to it.
Decor is "tired"
Our Room 8 was a nightmare for the pigeons that started their noise at 5.20am - amazingly it seems nobody has complained about this before.
The shower did not run hot water - but apparently you have to run the hot tap in basin first!
The towels were bad quality and very small.
The fire doors were not fitted with a slow shut system so banged shut awakening everybody in the rooms.

We were able to park the car outside the hotel at weekend. On Monday they have traffic wardens from 9am so had to move to Castle car park which is very near.

If you are catching a flight from Belfast City Airport, give yourself at least an hour to get from hotel to airport as the ongoing roadworks make it a nightmare.

Would I stay there again? No.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 8 unless you like pigeons. They wake up at 5.25am every morning.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay. I am sorry that you will not be returning to Dobbins Inn, but appreciate that you found the beds, pillows and breakfast good.
We do find during the week most guests are up and out by 9.00am. At the weekends we serve breakfast later through to 10.15am.
With regards to your negatives, as you advised on departure to myself about the pigeons, this really was the first time that we were aware of any issue. Thank you however for bringing it to my attention and this issue has been quickly resolved with a large section of spikes on the outside of the windowsill so the birds are unable to rest there now.
I was not aware of the issue with the hot water and did run the taps myself with hot water coming out quickly, so perhaps it may have been that the hot water was in demand at the same time.
I have checked the towels and I would agree that some of them were worn, and have since purchased more, with the others being thrown out.
The noise from the 2 doors into the corridor have been checked and the closer has been adjusted to prevent them banging.
With regards to the traffic wardens and the road works, I am sorry but this really is out of the hotels' control and am disappointed that this is reflected as a negative against the hotel.

Yours comments have been taken on board and action taken on them to further help us improve.

Kind regards

Stayed 3 nights at Dobbins. We booked in Early and was made very welcome from the start. This is an old Inn and the building and main rooms all had plenty of atmosphere. The accomodation was neat and tidy, and clean.
The bar and staff was very good, always had a smile on their faces. We only had the breakfasts which was quick, hot and more than enough. The staff were always willing to help and always with a smile on their faces. For our first visist to Carrickfergus this started our week-end off and we fully enjoyed ourselves.
Would we go back and stay in Dobbins Inn, more than willingly.

Room Tip: Twin rooms looked bigger
