Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Bob and Norma were the perfect hosts …. We felt like family for our 4week stay while we waited for our house to be built ! Beautiful cottage with fabulous views and everything you could want at hand. Beautiful tranquil setting and fabulous gardens kept by Bob yet just a couple minutes drive to the town of carrickfergus. Wonderful place to relax. 😎

cosy and comforatable.
it rained every day, so it was very comforting to come back to a warm and comfortable holiday cottage where we could put our feet up and prepare a home cooked meal. The views from the lounge window (upstairs) were uplifting.

Excellent cottage and great location
Well equipped and modernised cottage (but retained features and character of original building). We had a great time and an easy but fantastic coast drive to Giant’s Causeway and Carrick-a-rede rope Bridge. Carrickfergus Castle is a must visit as is the Titanic Experience. Bob, the owner of the cottage is an excellent host and his gardens are inspiring. Would recommend to anyone.

Beautiful spot
Beautifully presented little cottage on the edge of Carrickfergus with beautiful views over Belfast Lough. Would truly recommend this place if you like the country feel but still close to local amenities.

Idyllic cottage in a stunning location
We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day stay at Hillcrest Cottage. It is, as the name suggests, on top of a hill and has an upside down layout so that from the sitting room you get a fantastic view over Belfast Loch and Belfast. We were a party of three and it was ideal in that situation because there was a bedroom upstairs with en suite shower room and a bedroom downstairs with ensuite shower/ bath room so we all had privacy and our own space. The cottage was surrounded by a beautifully well kept garden, flower tubs and hanging baskets. We also loved the cockerel crowing in the morning, the donkeys at a nearby house, the horses and of course Bob's dog. We were glad we stayed just outside Carrickfergus as opposed to Belfast because it is a lovely, well kept town with a historic castle. We enjoyed eating at the Windrose where we were served delicious meals in a lovely setting overlooking the marina. Bob, the proprietor of Hillcrest cottage, made us feel very welcome and comfortable. He advised us on places of interest and we did and saw a lot during our time there. 1. The Titanic Experience. Your ticket also allows you free entry to the SS Nomadic, the last surviving White Star Line ship. Well worth a visit. Lunch at the Crown Bar. Belfast City Sightseeing tour. On exiting the bus, you get £3 vouchers per person for the Titanic Experience so it might be a good idea to do this first. 2. Causeway Coastal Route ( we had our own car). A beautiful drive up the Antrim coast road. We had a lovely home made meal at the Red Door Cottage tea room at Ballintoy. Carrick- a- Rede rope bridge. If you plan to walk across the bridge, give yourself plenty time because there could be a 2 hour wait. Giants Causeway. We didn't use the car park you are directed to but parked at the Portrush and Bush Valley Railway where it is £6 to park. No entry fee for the Giants Causeway. We went back by the inland route and were intending to visit the Dark Hedges at Ballymoney but we aren't Game of Thrones fans so gave it a miss. Regret it now. 3. Drove west today. Marble Arch Caves (guided tour). Normally a boat ride is part of the tour but when we were there they were unavailable. Belleek pottery (guided tour). Enniskillen. Lovely island town with a castle and many independent little shops. We enjoyed our "wee" break and will always have good memories of the beauty of Ireland's countryside and the friendliness of its people.

A cottage worth visiting.
Hillcrest is ideally situated for exploring both Belfast and the Antrim coast. It is in a secluded location in the country making for a very pleasant stay. The cottage is generously equipped with quality furnishings and equipment. Robert C was always helpful without being intrusive.

Cannot fault this cottage
Great cottage about 3 miles from Carrickfergus and overlooking Belfast Lough. We’re a family of 4 and all loved this place. Very well fitted out, comfortable beds, good sized room and a well stocked bookcase - who could ask for more? Our host, Bob, was great a very friendly chap with some good tips about where to go. His flowerbeds were dazzling too. We are definitely considering coming back.
