Reviewed 11 August 2014

Stayed for one night in a family room consisting of a good sized double bed and two singles. It was extremely clean and comfortable, just what you come to expect from a Premier Inn. The room had tea/coffee making facilities and a fully equipped bathroom with loads of towels. Breakfast in the Brewers Fayre restaurant is served from 6.30 and costs £8.95 for all you can eat with the added bonus of children eating free. Also there is ample free car parking on site.

Room Tip: Book as early as possible to get the lowest price.

Two night weekend family break

POSITIVES
Location - lovely location with easy access to Belfast.
Staff - very friendly, welcoming and nice to deal with.
Room - comfortable bedding.
Price - good value.

NEGATIVES
Noise - very disrupted sleep on first night. Fire alarm repeatedly going off with subsequent high levels of noise from residents awoken, doors banging etc. Noise from outside in the car park, which on this night appeared to have been the hang out spot of teenagers engaging in anti-social behaviours. Concerns discussed with staff who dealt very well with same.
Shower - very poor flow
Power points - lack of same and location of same.

But overall an ok hotel with price reflecting the experience.
Breakfast - good choice but substandard quality on the Sunday in comparison to a nice breakfast the day precious. Would not choose to eat again in the restaurant for evening meals.

The staff are very welcoming, friendly yet non-intrusive! Clean and comfortable rooms. Our booking was made just that morning so we paid more than usual, but I suppose that is to be expected. The location is superb with castle and sea views. Our rooms looked over Belfast Lough with the famous Harland and Wolfe Cranes in view on the horrizon. A nicer view than last time when my room was on the other side of the hotel. All in all very enjoyable stay.

This hotel is in an impressive location beside the harbour at Carrickfergus.
Staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. As a family of four, we were very impressed with the bedroom. There was a rotating fan on the table and a fan on the wall for fresh air, which were very welcoming in the heat!

The breakfast was very good and there was a good selection. The staff were efficient and friendly at all times.
Evening meals were good, but would recommend dining after seven if you don't have young children. Our experience would have been better if the dining area had nicer surroundings. One suggestion would be to improve the flooring and furniture. Beside our table there was a TV screen advertising special offers. These screens were irritating. The toilets were frequently out of order. Small changes could make a big difference in the restaurant area, which already has the advantage of a splendid view of the marina.

Wi-Fi is offered but only for 30 minutes free each day. After that Wi-Fi is £3 per 24 hours or £10 for a week. I can understand having limited Wi-Fi in the restaurant/bar area, but guests should have unlimited free Wi-Fi. The majority of hotels I have stayed in have free Wi-Fi.

Room Tip: Rooms with odd numbers have sea views.

Great welcome, immaculate room, plenty of free parking spaces, convenient for walking across to the castle, harbour and town centre. You can also walk 5 minutes up the road and get a train into Belfast City centre - cheaper and less hassle that driving/parking - the station also sells a family ticket for £20 that lets you travel the whole of the Northern Ireland rail network for a day.

Fantastic place to spend a few days and my only reason for not giving it 5 stars was the lack of air conditioning during a very hot July holiday.

Note to local management - your Derry Premier Inn offers a better nights (air-conditioned) sleep in hot weather - but then again. it doesn't have a fantastic castle on its doorstep

Thank you for your review of your stay at Premier Inn. We do apologise for the warm room we do work hard to reduce heat in rooms by closing the curtain having a fan in the rooms and by providing extra sheets in the rooms I will pass on your comments regarding air conditioning to our Management Team. The hotel is in a brilliant position right beside the Castle and we have views that over look the Belfast Lough that are pretty amazing. We are so pleased that you found the hotel convenient for your travels with the short walk into the town centre and public transport within walking distant. I will pass on your comments to the Premier Team about their warmth of welcome and the cleanliness of the rooms which the team will be delight with as they work really hard to achieve these goals and it's great that you felt they have been achieved. Thanks once again for your review. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
