Owner description: The Causeway Coastal Route is a designated scenic tourist drive around the coast of Northern Ireland between the cities of Belfast and Londonderry. The route follows the coast and takes you to several major tourist attractions along the way including The Giant's Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Dunluce Castle, The Old Bushmills Whiskey Distillery and the Glens of Antrim. There are also nine scenic loop roads that run off the main Coastal Route. These are: Islandmagee, Slemish Mountain, Glenariff, Glendun, Torr Road, Glenshesk, Bann Valley, Binevenagh Mountain and the Roe Vally. One of these (Torr Scenic Road)is quite narrow so do be careful if your not used to our small roads, one tip is to pull in your wing mirrors on the Torr Road.

We took this route going up and coming back and it is some of the most spectacular scenery you will ever see, do not miss it.

Fantastic breathtaking views around very corner. Drove from Larne right along the causeway coastline as far as Portstewart stopping at every little village along the way each one prettier than the next, amazing beaches, great stop off points, just stunningly beautiful.

Very scenic, with lots of photo opportunities.
If only people would use appropriate stopping places for taking photos.

We hit Belfast in the rain, picked up our rental car at the airport (Belfast City) and headed out. We took the more direct route to Larne and then got onto the Causeway Scenic route easily.

Quite a bit of our drive was in light rain so I bagged my initial plan of stopping in the forest along the way to do the Waterfall Walk - We drove on through mist and fog and I still think the scenery was great. We did the Torr Head route - I did not find it frightening even though I think some reviewers had written that it is not for the faint hearted. As we drove along, the rain stopped by the time we reached the Giants Causeway so we got out, parked at the Nook, had a pint, then took in part of the causeway (free of cost) before driving on to Dunluce Castle for some late afternoon photos which were also free as the site was closed for the evening but easily accessible to walk around the outside of the grounds.

The next day was sunny so we again headed out to Dunluce, and on back to the route to see it in better light. We got to the forest and I got my waterfall hike in :-) We were also able to hike up the fort to see the views.
