Loughshore Caravan Park is a favourite haunt of many ICCC members. Full marks to Newtownabbey Council and their staff in the caravan park, they have created a thing of beauty. Loughshore has blended a beautiful location, clever facilities and professional staff to create one of the best parks in Ireland.

During the summer you get the sense of a lazy French holiday, and in winter you can snuggle up and watch the ships sailing up and down Belfast Lough.

Other councils should take note! Newtownabbey can give you a master class in how to promote tourism.

We used this caravan park as we were visiting Belfasts W5 for our kids, we booked this online, as you really need to do this to obtain a security code to get into the gates, it is very safe and secure. We had a massive play park directly outside the caravan park itself and it was just a stroll out the gates with the kids to have more playpark fun, also there is a lovely big walk along side the Belfast Loch, beautiful views. Will use this site again, so handy into Belfast and easy to get to

Really enjoyed our stay a this site. We had been re-directed from the Dundonald site(there were travellers staying and the owners recommended we stayed elsewhere)
Our main problem was that on arriving, we realised we had to telephone to gain a key code to open the gate. Unfortunately no-one answered, but luckily a helpful German couple let us in saying they had the same problem, also having been redirected. Once we managed to get the key number everything was fine. Toilet block was cleaned twice a day, thoroughly, and was lovely and warm. There was also a little café at the entrance as it was part of a park area - would be ideal for families as there was a playground just outside the site.
There was space for around 12 - all hard-standings with electric/water to each pitch. There were also a couple of camping places.
One of the best things about the site were the outstanding views over the Belfast bay - we were very close to the water and there was a walkway by the side. There was also a very convenient bus service to the centre of Belfast as well as train station within waling distance.
I would advise booking online prior to your visit to be sure to have your unique key code to access the site and facilities. There is a custodian on site from about 5pm for a couple of hours, although he was not there on our first evening.
Just one downside - the site was very close to a busy main road, so there was traffic noise.

A brilliant Caravan Park, one of the best we've ever stayed in. Very safe and secure because you can only enter and leave the Park by entering your pin code. The caravan sites are all hard standing and each stand has electricity, water and waste. Facilities are all spotlessly clean and the showers are free. A lovely coffee shop with home cooking at the entrance to the Park. Location is fabulous because you are looking out at Belfast Lough. A fantastic play park for children just in front of the Park will keep the children happy for hours. There's a Supermarket, a Chippy, Chinese Takeaway, Bar/Restaurant, and a great Indian Restaurant which we tried, all just a ten minute walk away. A bus stop right at the entrance to the Park, with buses going either into Carrickfergus or Belfast, the railway station is a 15 minute walk away, again with trains going either towards Larne or to Belfast every 30 minutes. The main road running past the Park is very busy and can be noisy (although it didn't bother us in the slightest) but you also have a pavement with cycle lane there, so it's very safe for cycling or walking. The Park is open all the year round and we intend to get back again as soon as we can. An excellent starting point for exploring the North Coast.
