Hilltop Holiday Park

Really hilly site, so much so that you'd need a long leg and a short one to walk around inside the caravan, had to use the car jack to level the caravan up!!! Toilets were gross, we stayed 3 nites and i don't think they were cleaned in that time. Not enough toilets for the entire site, 5 ladies cubicles and 3 gents. Dont know what the showers were like, didn't want to chance those. Wont be back. Also, watch out for the overhead barrier to the entrance.

Room Tip: give it a miss

When we arrived with our tourer we were put on a sloping site. Not much interest from staff when we asked for something to raise the side of the caravan. Sites are very small and many on slopes... BEWARE. I think they should have the decency to warn you in advance of the slopes. The showers are £1. I would be happy if they were clean. I found hairs, wet toilet paper, etc on the floor. Nice coffee shop. The area for static vans is nice but the tourer area is tatty. Instead of putting down grass or concrete they have put stones. Not nice. Not much from the staff except the night security guy who was pleasant. It's a pity I had a bad experience as I had planned to return. However I did find another caravan park close by which is lovely and where the owners actually go with you to your site and help you unhook. That's where I'll be returning.

Touring site

Stayed for 2 nights Friday and Saturday. £55 for the 2 nights because the a Pipe band competition was being held in Portrush. Touring vans were shoe horned in among the static caravns. Smallest pitches we have encountered to date. Grounds are litter free. Nice new showers costing a pound. Clean toilets and Elsan point. Chip shop/cafe and a shop selling Caravan and tenting bits and bobs onsite. Great WIFI signal.

When checking in i asked the nice young lady on the desk if i could be put close to the toilets as we have a special needs young adult, no problem but the site she gave us was right on the corner meaning we would be stepping out on to the road. There was loads of other empty pitches so we moved after being told by our neighbour they usally let you pick your own pitch. Phoned the office to ask was it ok and was told by a male member of staff in a curt manner "well its going to have to be ok". Tents are in piece of ground in the middle of the park too. None of the pitches are very level. Would i go back ? Not at that price and only if there were no other places available. Taxi in to Portrush costs around £5.00.

I have stayed here a few times with my kids and we have always enjoyed it. Our main reason for coming back is that they book tents in on arrival (I like to know what the weather is doing that day). Important to note that if you are coming with young family request to go on the "top green" as they tend to put young people down in the bottom field. They now have a chippy/cafe thats open all through the summer great for an all day breakfast or a fresh fish and chip. The play park is just ok but you can walk to barrys etc in about 20 minutes. Also if your coming with a caravan they rent new release DVD's (no use to me in a tent, but haven't seen that at other parks).

i have stayed at Hilltop Holiday Park many times with my family and can only say it has continued to improve in every way each time we stay....the management have certainly invested a lot of time and effort in making this one of the best holiday parks in the area.....the caravan we stayed in was well kitted out and clean and tidy and we enjoyed the well appointed play park for our little one..we also appreciated the new cafe located at the entrance ..as a handy place to get a quick bite before heading out......Hilltop is situated nicely out of town to be quieter but close enough to walk into town and happily close to all the great attractions of the north cost......

Booked this in January and was required to pay the full amount. When we arrived the caravan was unclean, I had to hoover, wash bathrooms etc. Our party was 4 adults and a small baby, and it was cramped, it was supposed to sleep 8. We were also told only 2 vehicles per caravan, but when we walked around the site there was caravans with 4 vehicles, maybe 2 was for the hired ones only. The weather was poor and there are no amenities on site, no shop indoor play area, pool etc. There is a small cafe with a very limited menu. On the morning we were due to leave the site manager was watching everyone, and telling them it was time they had left. Check-out was 10.00am, which I found very early.

The site over last period has made a number of poor decisions on changes and the site is not good anymore compared to other local good sites. This seems to have coincided with a site manager change.

Over three years ago site was to get a new children’s park as current one is very poor with very little equipment and is out of date. They seem to have spent the money for this on their new office block instead of thinking about their customers.

They have forced the excellent chip shop out, run by another business, and replaced it with their own cafe. Unfortunately the standard is very poor and has a very limited range on the menu. They have no experience of this type of business so it is not surprising. It is also high priced. Anyone would be advised to go to another chip shop. Please avoid Chambers chip shop nearby as this is very poor also. Best places are Mr Chips in town centre or Lisa's in Skerries Caravan site (easy parking).

For permanent van users site fees have also jumped a couple of hundred pounds this year also.

Please note current site manager is OK when trying to sell you things or get you on site. After that he is very aggressive and will avoid fixing anything wrong with the site. He also seems to lacks basic common-sense, technical skills, and customer relationship skills. I have spoken to a number of permanent van users who are having difficulties getting him to fix things as he keeps coming up with excuses, not excepting the problem, or trying to force them to pay extra for solutions that are not needed and are over the top.

In summary: Was good but not anymore. Better sites around.
