“Kids enjoy it”

Portrush Countryside Centre
Reviewed 26 August 2018

Somewhere to pass 30 minutes away. Interesting photograghs of the area to review. The photos are of a bygone day. Kids enjoyed the tanks and sealife. Its ok if its raining and you want some shelter. I wouldn't be rushing back, but it is free so thanks for that.

The countryside centre has been a staple for my family for years. The kids love visiting here as there is colouring pages and activities, a touch tank and lots of information on local sea life.

This was done on a cold winter morning with the wind rushing towards the shoreline and a about daybreak sky. It presents a mystical feeling with the waves rushing towards the rocks

We stopped for a picnic at the Quoile Countryside Centre along the River Quoile at the south end of the lough. This pretty county park included a stone cottage containing exhibits on local flora, fauna and history, vegetables and herbs in raised beds, and a wildflower garden. Children were running round with butterfly nets. To the side of the interpretive center was a good 17th Century tower house. Although the public wasn’t allowed inside, the footprint was small enough that we could get the impression that these towers were built for defense, rather than comfort, and that even though the owners may have been the most prosperous and powerful people in the area, their domestic lives were fairly stark.

The costal zone is a good side attraction for Portrush. You can't really spend the whole day there however it is a good 1-2 hours of fun. Quite informative and well suited to children.
