“Very happy stay at Royal Court”
Reviewed 6 July 2011

After a long day of driving and long walk around Giant's Causeway, we were desperately looking for a place to stay and we had not made a reservation. We tried several places that were packed with tour buses and finally landed at Royal Court. It was very lovely, clean, spacious, great bathroom. AMAZING view of the beach at night and the nearby golf course. Breakfast was great, again, great view of the beach. They sat us right by the window! There was at least one tour group but wasn't overwhelming. We sat in the hotel bar and had a couple of pints, very relaxing!

My wife and I stayed at this gorgeous hotel for 3 nights(may 30,31 & June 1/2011) and we stayed in one of the executive suites overlooking the ocean. Most beautiful view you ever want to see. The suite was very clean and comfortable. The hotel reception staff were the most friendly and helpful (specially LAURA) people you ever want to meet. After travelling for about 35 hours we had arrived only to find out the airlines had lost our luggage. We only had the clothes on our backs and nothing else. Laura at reception said she would be off duty soon and that she would gladly go out and purchase the things we needed until our bags arrived, if ever(when was the last time someone at the hotel did that for you?????) Her other collegues were also very helpful when they came on duty. I fell down a couple of stairs in a downtown resturant, spraining my ankle, and when we got back to hotel Laura had metioned it to a gentleman that worked in the hotel resturant, he right away got ice for me to put on it and said if I needed more he would bring it up. Next morning everyone on duty had heard about my accident and all want to help - WOW. The food in the resturant was exellant and the staff very friendly. Any thing we needed, like calling a cab, was never a bother to them. We were going to take a cab to Dunluce Castle, but Laura said she was going off duty and insisted that she drive us there - again, what thoughtfulness. Overall we could not be more pleased with the Royal Court Hotel and are considering going back next year. We would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a beautiful view, comfort and great hotel staff.

Room Tip: get ocean view(not many and book up fast)

We were in Portrush for a wedding. Arrived to find they had no record of our booking. However, they still had one room, a suite with a sea view. Gave it to us for the same rate as the "booked" standard room. Huge room looking over the ocean. Wonderful view. A king size bed and a single. Not really a suite, just a huge room with a seating area and a huge, well equipped bathroom. Everything spotless. As we left for our evening wedding they told us they had found the booking but it was down for the previous week. They had taken my deposit for not cancelling! Without asking they said they would credit that to my bill.
Good night's sleep. Night porter provided water when we returned at about 1:30. Breakfast was a standard buffet. As much to eat as you wanted. Everything was OK , hot and tasty. Lots of coffee, tea juices , porridge and the usual Ulster Fry (the heart attack on a large plate!)
Check out was quick and friendly. Deposit was taken off bill. Everybody happy.
Nice simple hotel. Great views if you are at the front. Comfortable, clean, hot water good food. If we are staying in the area again I would have no qualms about staying there.

Room Tip: A sea view room and a window table for breakfast.

Stayed one night, had dinner & breakfast - huge portions! Olde world type hotel and yes it was quiet, but suited us perfectly for our one night. Fantastic views and we were lucky enough to have an amazing sun set, sipping a glass of wine from the comfort of our window table. Staff couldnt have been more helpful. Much preferred this hotel outside Portrush, rather than saying in the town itself.

We stayed 1 night for a weekend break away. The location is lovely and in walking distance of thebeach. The rooms were clean and pleasant - we paid £80.00 per room per night bed and breakfast. Good selection at breakfast and comfortable accomodation. There are no amenities e.g, pool / spa / gym and I think these would help to enhance the hotel. It is quite a distance from Portrush so own transport is essential as well. We didn't dine in the hotel - dined in Portrush at a restaurant called 55 degrees north - defn recommended - booking essential.

Recently stayed in this hotel and we were appalled by the general treatment of guests. When we stayed the hotel was virtually empty yet were given a triple with a 3/4 bed and a single, the room was close to the boiler house and therefore very noisy. On departure the lady at reception took our key and handed us a receipt without saying good morning or thankyou or did you enjoy your stay - there was absolutley no conversation.
Over breakfast we enjoyed the most magnificient view however we had to endure a self service reheated buffet breakfast - at 8.30am there were 20 fried eggs (approx) under the uv lamps.......? Not the most appetising.
Really disappointed with this hotel as it has potential to be the jewel of the North Coast. Staff and management need to get real and understand the hospitality and service industry.

This hotel doesn't really understand the saying: "service with a smile". During a 3 night stay it was only on the morning that we left that we encountered a friendly face behind reception.

If you want access to the beach and walks along the causeway coastline then this is the hotel for you. It has amazing sea views from the restaurant and some rooms. However, it is in the middle of nowhere and you can't walk to any other bars or restaurants.

Usually when staying at such an isolated hotel you'd expect a warm and inviting bar etc. to while away lazy afternoons... but no! The bar only opened in the evening (and then smiler behind reception informed us it would only open if enough people wanted it) and so the only public area was a few sofas in reception or you could sit in a deserted restaurant. It felt a lot like a B&B but with hotel prices!

I appreciate that a lot of visitors to this hotel are hikers and so are out and about but it's also a big wedding venue and as we were there for a wedding and the weather was horrible we had time to kill both before and after the big day. They don't make you feel welcome and seem to just want you out of their hair.

Rooms were average - bathrooms a bit scruffy. The shower was possibly the worst I've ever experienced. It was a shower head over the bath (which is fine) but the water pressue was so poor that I couldn't get the shampoo out of my hair.

We were given a triple room (even though there was only two of us) and it seemed that, in order to get the single bed in, they had to compromise on the double, which was only 3/4s of the size of a standard. We travelled with friends and whereas we were lying nose-to-nose all night my single friend had a normal double room with a king size bed (where's the logic!!)

As a group of friends, visiting for a wedding, we were going to spend a lot of money on food and drink but weren't made to feel welcome at all and ended up getting taxis to restaurants elsewhere.

If you want a base to see the beautiful scenery then go for it. If you want somewhere relaxing, comfortable and enjoyable, look elsewhere.
