The location could be a little isolated for some but for us was ideal. The cottage was well equipped, warm, clean and well maintained and the bed was so comfortable. No trouble going to sleep.
Do take time to visit Mount Stewart house and gardens.

This self catering cottage is a real gem. Situated a short walk from the edge of Strangford Lough with its breath taking views, this is a very cosy cottage that caters for all your needs. A well stocked kitchen and open planned living area with comfy arm chairs and a large sofa. Being a rather cold time of year there is always the fear of a property not being warm enough however with radiators in all rooms timed to come on in the morning and evening and the addition of a gas fire (wood burner lookalike), we were toasty at all times.
Great location and I highly recommend a walk down to the lough in the morning as the sun is coming up for some great photo opportunities. Easy to find with an easy to see sign on the main Portaferry Road.
Last but not least, extremely friendly and very helpful owners. We could have stood chatting for hours. Oh and very pet friendly too - we took our two dogs and they have a fantastic time.

This delightful 2 bed self-catering accommodation is just a few miles South of Newtownards and a further half a mile off the coastal Portaferry road in idyllic countryside. Its one in a row of 5 joined up cottages (previously a farm building) and with its heavily wooden interior features feels really homely. There are so many beauty spots to visit close to Cunningburn alongside Strangford Loch especially the wonderful Mount Stewart, National Trust garden a few miles down the road. Also, if you want to visit Belfast its about a 20+ min drive so you've the best of both worlds. I'd thoroughly recommend this place to get away from it all and wind down.

Our traveling party of four stayed in a two-bedroom cottage here in January 2008 for a week. The location is great: within a few minutes of the town of Newtownards and in commuting distance to Belfast, while still being in a calm rural setting on the Ards peninsula. Our cottage far surpassed our expectations, with a fully supplied kitchen, modern bathroom, excellent furnishings, and a gas fire. The proprietors, Terry and Jim, were very friendly and stopped to talk with us several times. They also have a very smart and playful Welsh Border Collie, Tess. Those staying here will most likely have a car, but there is a bus line at the end of the road, a 10-minute walk, that links to Newtownards and Belfast. If you arecoming to Northern Ireland for a week or longer, this is the place to stay.

  • Liked — The spaciousness of the living area.
  • Disliked — Internet access for the cottages would be helpful.

The cottages have been converted from a 16th century barn and retain many original features but with all the comforts you would want. Located at the end of a tree lined avenue it is the perfect place to escape in quiet privacy. Lots of nice walks nearby and the owners - who have farmed here for generations - are full of local knowledge. No nightclubs within 5 miles - yipee!!!
