“Absolutely superb holiday home with a welcome that would be hard to beat.”
Reviewed 30 October 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Nothing was too much trouble for Pat the owner. The games room with table football was great for keeping the grandchildren entertained while we were making meals or just wanted a quiet half hour. A convenient location for southern end of Northern Ireland and northern end of Eire. Lots to do in surrounding area whether you enjoy walking, sports or other interests.
We will definitely use this accommodation again when we return to the area.Well kept, clean and has most things you would do find in your own home. Great views from quiet location.
We even managed to get a takeaway delivered from Banbridge (7 miles away) when the car broke down.

“All you could want from a holiday home”
Reviewed 26 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Our second stay at Fernhill.
Large, well equipped bungalow, clean, warm and good value with a friendly and helpful owner - Pat.
We chose to stay here because it is an ideal holiday let:
lots of space (including two bathrooms),
well equipped (big TV and WiFi),
great kitchen (big table to sit at plus lovely view to the Mournes),
games room (so boys can be noisy without disturbing the oldies),
lots of space outside (for parking and running about, away from the road),
close to Rathfriland town (includes big Milestone/Nisa store for large range of fresh food),
close to interesting places (Mournes, Newcastle, Strangford Lough, Ring of Gullion, etc)
close to Belfast (lots to do on a wet day) and Lisburn (flumes at LeisurePlex excellent)
and Pat the owner, always obliging and happy to help.

“Beautiful country setting!”
Reviewed 7 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Members of our family enjoyed the hospitality and thoughtfulness of Pat, the owner. If you have never traveled to Northern Ireland, be advised that the Irish are very friendly and helpful and expect you to care for their country as they do. Plan to recycle and conserve energy. Because this is a country setting a rental car is advised. But remember that the Irish drive on the left. The roads are narrow and very curvy and take some getting used to. My son-in-law rented a bike and logged 234 miles in 6 days! He saw and took stunningly beautiful pictures of the country. The kitchen is well equipped. We liked the flexibility of the sleeping arrangements. We were traveling with a 15 month old and Pat kindly set up a portable crib and provided a highchair and even a few age appropriate toys. The bedrooms can be set up with twin or king beds depending on your particular needs. Another pleasant surprise was that we found handheld hair dryers in the drawer! Our only request for possible improvement would be explicit directions for running the washer and dryer. (we never could get the dryer to work and please note that it is only to be used between the hours of 1 and 8 AM - off-peak hours) Outside and inside clotheslines are provided, however due to the nature of the Irish weather (rainy) the outside one's use is very limited. There is Wi-Fi provided which is very useful in planning activities.

We have stayed at Fernhill twice this year - it really is that good !!

Pat is an affable and attentive person who always does "the little things" that make a difference (like enquiring about our children's ages to ensure there were some suitable toys and books for them to use).

We can't recommend this venue highly enough

“A perfect place to call home-away-from-home in Brontë Country.”

While it was my Dad who rented this cottage for a month and I stayed there with him for two weeks, I am the computer guy who does things like write reviews.

The cottage is ideally located about mid-way between Banbridge and Rathfriland. The kitchen window looks across the verdant fields, past the Brontë Church and upon the Mourne Mountains. The view is stunning. And if you're looking for quiet, here you will find here it in spades.

The cottage itself is very well appointed. Simply furnished, it still has the feel of a lived-in home. The modern, farm-style kitchen is very well stocked with every imaginable utensil. The lounge/living room has a large TV and lots of seating- including a pull-out couch- providing ample places for people to sit, relax, and even sleep. Meanwhile, the beds down the hall are very comfortable.

Here, I had one of the best showers I've had for quite some time. If you're not acquainted with "electric showers" (basically a mini pressure washer unit) be sure to enquire of the owner when he shows you around the place.

I had the pleasure of meeting the owners and they are very friendly, happy people. They made sure that my Dad (and all his visitors) were comfortable and happy throughout his stay.

The house is immaculately clean and smokers are expected to step outside before breathing the fresh air through a filter. There is no past-evidence of smokers inside whatsoever.

The owner met my Dad at the bus station when the bus arrived in from Dublin and took him to a car dealership who rented Dad a Renault Megane to get around. That saved Dad a wad of cash over renting at the airport.

The house has a monitored alarm system as well as well-maintained laundry facilities.

If I were to return to Ireland in the future and needed a base from which to do day trips, this would definitely be on the top of my list.

Dad tells me that the booking was very fast and easy. The owners got back to him almost immediately with a confirmation. Directions were not necessary to the Lodge because the owner drove him to the lodge himself. The deposit also gets an N/A because Dad cannot remember clearly how or when the nominal amount was refunded but he thinks it was in-person on the last day.

The items checked below are my Dad's opinion- but I would concur completely.
