“Warm welcome and full or character”
Reviewed 1 November 2010

This is the kind of hotel I love. An interesting old building, full of character with twisting stairways and friendly, personal service from warm and professional staff. Room (15) was on top floor and was a good size, with comfy bed, plenty of storage, large TV, generous bathroom with lovely soft towels and good toiletries. Kettle with tea & coffee and lots of biscuits! Excellent rate and comfortable surroundings - what more could one ask for?

I stayed here for one night on a business trip. Reception staff were extremely helpful and the chef happy to cook an early meal for me even though he had a big party to cook for 15 mins later. Room pleasant and clean and I was able to upgrade for a small extra fee.
Would certainly stay here again and thoroughly recommend it .

the shrewsbury lodge is a lovely hotel with character in quiet pleasant area. I only had need for a brief overnight stay but it exceeded my expectations. The staff are very helpul and polite and engaging conversation naturally to just the right level. The bar and lounge areas are very comfortable and relaxing. Unfortunately I didnt have an opportunity to sample the restaurant. As far removed from "corporate land " faceless hotels as you can get and great value.

The Shrewsbury Lodge is an charming building tucked away, but in a decent location, not far from town or the station. Upon arrival my online booking didn't seem to have gone through. This posed no problems, as the efficient, friendly and helpful staff ensured I was checked in without a hitch. The room was basic but comfortable. Irons were available easily and the bathroom was very clean. The bar and lounge were pleasant, comfortable and relaxing, and the staff were cheerful and happy to help.
