Owner description: Coughton Court has been home to the Throckmorton family for 600 years, this finest of Tudor houses stands testament to a family's courage in maintaining their beliefs. From a position of high favour to one of fear and oppression post-Reformation, the Throckmortons were leaders in a dangerous age, helping to bring about Catholic emancipation in the 19th century. Explore this story of fascinating personalities through the 'family album' of portraits and Catholic treasures around the house. Coughton is still very much a family home with an intimate feel: the Throckmorton family live here, managing the stunning gardens which they have created.

A bit of a whistlestop tour but informative and interesting look into a tudor house that looked after families involved in the gunpowder plot . Perhaps more of the house could have been shown but not a complaint really. The gardens were nice and well kept with an assortment of plants some of which were for sale

“Excellent attraction, fascinating history, great rooms , lovely gardens”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

We visited as it was on our way to Tewkesbury when touring the area. If we had known we would have made sure that it was a must-see attraction It was a sunny day and you get a great view from the top of the gatehouse. This history and anecdotes about the Throckmorton family were well told by a number of the National Trust staff. There was a fascinating introductory talk.. The rose and perennial gardens were amazing. Every member of staff was friendly and helpful. Another reminder that often the smaller and not so well known National Tust properties offer the most rewarding experience

Visited Coughton Court this week whilst on holiday in the Cotswolds. Lovely stately home with plenty of history including references to the Gunpowder Plot which we listened to in a talk by volunteer Vic. This lasted 20 minutes and lots of information regarding Guy Fawkes and his other plotters gave us dates and cities until he was executed. This was taken over by the National Trust but is hoped to eventually be back to the Throckmorton Family at some time in the future. We went on the Woodland Walk by the river and there were ducks and ducklings by the path and some were quite tame. There were also quite a few seats to rest and then carry on. Plenty of tables for eating and picnics so all in all had a nice visit there.
