“Yum!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2014

A novice critic here, but I am a real foodie and a frustrated cook at home.
A group of us visited last Thursday night as part of a colleagues leaving party. She dines at the bugle inn frequently.
What a fab pub, great service, smart decor, excellent (and cold) wines by the glass and probably the best food I've personally eaten for quite a few years. Every mouthful tasty, complex & seasoned expertly.
I would never think of putting smoked tuna with cured salmon, but it really worked thanks to the sharp dressing, my main of baked crab was so good, light & with a slight heat from the horseradish and a delicate crust on top. The pickled cucumber that was served with it really cut through the crab. I am always nervous ordering chocolate fondant, but again it was perfect and the blood orange sorbet a perfect partner.
A perfect dinner that has been in all my conversations over the last two days. Can see why they are #1.
Couldn't fault a thing and promptly booked again.

“Perfect Execution”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2014 via mobile

Met with a colleague for lunch at the Bugle and so glad he chose it.
When someone says meet up for a pub lunch you think plough mans & sandwiches. Not the case there, a stunning menu which was completely tempting on all levels.
Had the mussels to start, excellent, then the poussin to follow. We even polished off a chocolate tart between us which was rich & crumbly. Never had food like that in a pub before for a lunch. And we were served quickly and efficiently, so we didn't clock watch to get back to the office.
A truly superb pub with not your usual pub food.

“Happy Return”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2014 via mobile

I haven't been to the bugle for some time due to traveling. It's always with slight trepidation going back to a restaurant you love so much as you want it to be perfect again.
As usual it was, once more the staff recognized us, even after 6 months. Great service & touch.
I chose items that I had never tried before (pork belly & scallops was not on, my fav) I had the duo of pork belly & pigs cheeks, so tender and bags of flavor. The duck parfait was smooth & rich and the lemon tart as good as I remember.
Only slight niggle is my espresso at the end didn't have the crema on top and looked a bit flat & instant like. Small thing, but last visit it was amazing coffee.
The bugle deserves their 1 rating as they are just so consistent. Happy return indeed

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

I went to the Bugle last Friday the 6th June, We had made a reservation for 2 people at 7.30 and the 2 course meal with drinks was over by 8.30.
The Food was completely rushed, probably because they had a large party come in at around 8, but for the price we paid i wasn't happy about being stuffed in the corner and food and being hurried along for what should have been a relalxing birthday meal.
We were planning on buying a bottle of wine to have with dinner but by the time we'd finished our drinks we had also finished dinner.
Almost before chewing our last mouthful of starter, the main was dropped on the table.
The dinner itself wasn't great, the starter was average- we had Scallops and the Goose pate.
I had the Lamb Shank as a main course with wasnt hot, the vegetables were a good temperature and the potaoes were too hot to eat so i ended up having to eat them after everything else.
Not to mention one of the starters and main courses was already off the small menu at 7.30pm.
All in all a dissapointing experience and i won't be returning.

“Now that's a Sunday lunch!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2014 via mobile

Sunday lunch at The Bugle is a rare treat. The roasts, for those who like traditional Sunday fare, are well cooked and very tasty. Portion sizes are good, the accompanying vegetables interesting and varied and the rest of the menu is full of temptations. The service is friendly and unfussy. We have been twice, and will soon spoil ourselves again.
