There was a fire in the hearth and it should have been cheerful but the pub has lost any sole that it had, it is stark with white walls and no pub atmosphere. There was one other person and he was sat by the fire.
The lunch that we had was very good but like the beer, expensive.
I feel sorry for the pub because it deserves to be so much better but there is something amiss and I don't know what it is. I should and want to be able to sing it's praises but I just can't!
Over the past 30 years we've seen this pub through it's highs and it's lows and I fear that it is heading for another low.

We were guided to the George by an out-of-date Sawday's Guide. The George must have changed hands since. The service was friendly but the bar where we had lunchtime sandwiches was unprepossessing. The sandwiches were the most expensive we have ever ordered and would not have been great value at half the price - sliced bread pre-sliced ham and cheese and a curious tuna mixture.

We would recommend this pub for a pub lunch stop- although a little off the beaten track (not far from Salisbury off the Bath to Salisbury Road). Excellent freshly prepared food (home made pork pie and relish, bread) very well presented and served. We didn''t experience the dinner menu but the menu looked very interesting. This is clearly an establishment that has a good and enthusiastic chef at the helm. It seems to have good write ups from other sites and does well with reviews about its restaurant. On our next visit we are intrigued to try the restaurant. We were surprised to be the first people to comment about the George on Tripadvisor!
