Just got back from a long weekend and I can not fault this place... It's amazing the relaxation, food, atmosphere, facilities and the staff provide an extraordinary service espc restaurant staff very smily and polite. Minutes from the station if you are not driving. Coming from London and almost 2 hours away it was really worth the travel. I would definitely stay here again.... Loved it

We visited this hotel last week courtesy of my son. We have never been to a spa hotel before but would definitely go back. The bedroom, sitting room and en-suite bathroom were very tastefully decorated and quite luxurious. We certainly felt pampered. We chose a mud bath treatment as we could have it together. Fantastic experience that left you skin feeling so smooth. I would highly recommend it. The staff were all very courteous, helpful and friendly. The cuisine was of an excellent standard we couldn't praise it enough. If you want to sample a taste of luxury then this is the place to come.

We went for a special occasion and the hotel did make it special. The setting is great and a super walk down by the river is not to be missed. The wildlife is spectacular, rabbits running around as well as squirrels and many types of birds. The hotel does seem to set itself high standards and does just about achieve them. The food is excellent. We had 16 for dinner in a separate room and the food we chose from the main menu when we arrived was excellent. The service was as good as the food. The accommodation is what you would expect at the prices but we had a very disturbed night because the room above us were checking out early and did not realise that we could hear them walking around. It did spoil the night and we probably did not approach breakfast with the right frame of mind. They do have sufficient staff for the numbers staying but they seem so slow! We both had omelettes and they were very good indeed. When we were checking out the man in front of us had a number of issues with his bill and was clearly not happy but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay - but if we go back we will not accept a room on the ground floor! There is a spa but it is probably best to book in advance.

Room Tip: Do not have a room on the ground floor

We stayed here for one night and can only say wow!
Our room was in the adjacent building. With a sofa and TV area before getting into the main bedroom and a fabulous ensuite. The bed was fabulously comfortable and the room stylish and made us feel special. The spa area was lovely and our evening meal was so wonderful, all courses. The wine seemed expensive and the soft drinks too.
Breakfast was wonderful and the staff all evening and in the morning really looked after us.

We were given a one nights hotel and spa break by our son for Christmas. We finally got around to taking the break at the end of May and it was well worth the wait. We had a mud bath which was great and an evening meal which was outstanding. The starter and dessert were probably the best I have ever tasted. We will certainly be revisiting and I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

I took my wife for a 2 day break to this spa hotel towards the end of May 2014 to unwind after a particularly hectic few months. Looking for relaxation and a bit of pampering we were disappointed to see that the place was overrun with children. Now, we don't have anything against children, as we have two wonderful boys of our own, but when you book a spa break to get away from it all, the last thing you expect is kids running all over the place!

However, the hotel is owned by Longleat (the safari park people) and I understand that they have a series of family offers which will explain the kids.

In general, the food was excellent in terms of quality but on occasion the service was very patchy - some members of staff were excellent, others were uninterested or simply not up to the job.

The room we stayed in was OK - tired and the double bath took about 30 minutes to fill. However it was adequate, although for the price we paid, and having stayed at many great hotels over the years I feel that it was overpriced.

The spa was fine and newly refurbished apart from the pool, which is very tired and uninspiring. In fact not really a place where you would want to relax in or lounge by.

However, balancing everything out, our stay was OK. Just that. Nothing made us think that we would want to stay again, and nothing really made us think it was spectacularly awful.

The hotel is just missing something to make it sparkle. And certainly, if you are thinking of staying for a relaxing break, in total piece and quiet, do check to see if there is a multitude of kids staying.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments on Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa.

The Bishopstrow Hotel and Spa welcomes all visitors whether they are couples, families or business guests. To balance everybody's expectations we have children's swimming times, so those who are travelling without children can chose to avoid these times if they wish to do so.
As you visited during the a busy period there were naturally more families staying than usual due to our close proximity to Longleat House & Safari Park.

We strive to provide a service that exceeds our guests’ expectation, errors do occur. I have taken your comments on board regarding the service and necessary corrective measures have been put in place.

One of the big charms of a country house hotel is the fact that all bedrooms are unique with their own character and no two bedrooms are the same. This is why we offer a wide variety of room categories for our guests to select from. I can only apologise that this was obviously not explained in detail to you at the time of booking; please be assured I have followed up on this matter with the team.

We do hope to welcome you to the hotel and spa during quieter times, to enable you to make full use of our spa facilities.

Kind Regards

This was a very last minute booking and what a pleasant surprise it turned out to be. I had read a few negative reviews but I can honestly say that my family and I had a wonderful couple of days. We stayed in the family room which was on the top floor and was a particularly large room with two permanent single beds in the room (not the usual put-up camp beds). We didn't take advantage of the spa but we did use both the indoor and outdoor pools. Neither are particularly large but both were warm and clean. My only complaint would be that the changing area in the spa is rather small so if there are a few of you in there it can be a tad cramped but we were there over half term so the hotel was busy. We also used the outside tennis court and were supplied with tennis rackets as we didn't bring our own. We were on a DB&B rate and the food was superb, lots of choice and very well cooked The restaurant staff were extremely attentive and friendly at both dinner and breakfast service. In fact nothing was too much trouble for anyone during our stay there. This is the perfect location if you want to visit Longleat as it is only 10/15 mins away. Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful few days of R&R.
