“Enjoyable stay with family”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 September 2012

The Jacobian building and setting within the grounds on the edge of Bradford-on-Avon is fantastic, and the hotel lived up to being incredibly family friendly and welcoming of children. It wasn't a true 'luxury' experience, as claimed, but certainly a good place to stay with a young family.

We felt totally comfortable leaving our 18 month in our room, whilst we enjoyed a superb dinner and a number of glasses of good wine. A real treat. Spa and indoor pool also very good. One let down was the service - a bit slow and the staff some times seemed pre-occupied. The ceiling in the Orangery good all benefit from seeing a feather duster.

We stayed for 3 nights and all told had an enjoyable stay and would try other properties by Luxury Family Hotels.

This hotel is what it says on the tin, a hotel for a family break. Having said that for us our kids were a little too old, but still enjoyed it. I stayed in hotels like this before when our eldest were toddles and I can honestly say the are invaluable.
The rooms are in need of some tlc, but if you actually overlook that and see what they offer its good value for money. Having read some of the comments from the manager on other comments left it seems they are making changes and of course these take time. The are having a refurb which will make it a bit more luxury.
BUT the staff were all fantastic and couldnt do enough to help. If you are a parent of toddlers or babies and need a break where you can relax and they can have fun this chain of hotels is spot on. And to be honest you cant put a price on that!!!
If you want to have a relaxing time in terms of lay ins you wont get it though as young kids get up early and I mean very early!!! I was woken most days at 6.30. But, as I say if you come here with toddlers thats whats going to happen anyway its just our kids are older.
The spa well this was fantastic, and the girls know what they are doing. Felt a million dollars after being there! And one of my teenagers had a facial first time I have seen their skin glow so much. Worth every penny!
They are never going to compete with the 5* spa hotels for luxury but thats not what they are about - they offer a service for those in need of some peace and place their kids can be looked after giving time for maybe finding each other again. Def worth a visit, just we have outgrown it! Thanks to all the staff our kids loved you!!! You know who you are :)

Dear Ursie Tucker

Thank you very much for your feedback. It is great to hear you had an enjoyable time. I don't know your children's ages, but we are developing our offering for older children, such as a playleader during the school holidays who will take the children outside and offer den building for example.

We always welcome more detailed feedback and suggestions and I hope the developments we make might entice you back.

Best wishes

We came to stay for a night at this lovely place with our kids, on our way to London. They have a lot of games for the kids. They also have a super nice spa & pool area with all you need. For those who have small kids, they also have a kids club where they can take care of your kids during the day or during night when you want to have dinner. We only missed a nicer place to eat with our kids, since the dining room was only for adults. The rooms & beds are heavenly!!! Staff super sweet.

Dear Hedda W

Thank you very much for your feedback and so pleased you had a great time.

We are in the process of refurbishing the Orangery, our family restaurant. I very much hope we can welcome you back soon and the Orangery will then offer you the family dining experience you were expecting.

We booked for 2 nights believing that would be more than enough for our 5 and 7 yr old to explore etc having never visited before and we would go on from there. There was mixed reviews on here but most favourable. Upon arriving we were greeted by the impressive Jacobean building. We arrived around 1pm knowing check in was 3pm. The receptionist was really friendly and offered to store the luggage whilst we went into 'The Orangery" to have lunch and wait for the room. The Orangery menu is great for both big and little kids! We then went for a walk around. The grounds are impressive. Immediately outside is a Lilly Pond leading on to the Gardens which are home to Croquet, Swing Ball, Outside Pool. Trampoline, Table Tennis, Small Football Pitch & a Mini Mini Maze for very young ones! We stayed in the Hay Loft which was a lovely Suite offering a lounge between the bedrooms. The Spa is both attractive and ultra clean with great facilities. The children would have spent the whole time in the indoor pool if they had their way! The "Walled Garden" is beautiful leading on to "The Good Life" area housing two play houses and a Chicken Hut! Then the icing on the cake.."Woolley Bears Den"! Home to the wonderful Nannies who will look after the little ones while we had a bit of "us" time. The Staff overall made the trip beyond our expectations so much so that 2 nights turned into 5 as we kept extending! The food was out of this world devised by Head Chef Mark Bradbury. Having been fortunate to eat at other fine places like Langan's, Ivy etc I can honestly say it is on par with the London elite. As we extended several times we also tried the Suites named Chapmans and The Balcony. Previous reviews have knocked the hotel on both decor and price. We were informed the chain had recently been taken over and most rooms have been redone to a high standard. Beautiful to be precise with lovely furnishing such as the Angelpoise desk lamps to name but a few. Yes it is expensive for what is currently rated 3 Star however if this was to be reviewed in 6 months it would be 4 on a bad day but realistically 5. Luxury is a word that cannot be pigeon holed. Yes the Savoy in London is luxurious as is The Burj in Dubai as is Chewton Glen in New Milton. They all offer luxury in a different way. Woolley Grange offer luxury to families whose parents & kids want to get away from it all, with everyone having that bit of "me" time, fine food and switching off. However their best asset? The staff. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you again in the near future!

Room Tip: The three suites we had were all great!

We visited Woolley Grange for 2 days in August 2012. We stayed in the Hayloft room, which was very large with a big lounge between two rooms. The kids one side, us on the other. The room worked very well, although it was a bit of a trek in the middle of the night checking the kids ! There are also stairs between the two rooms, so beware wandering toddlers in the night (there is a gate installed, v helpful).

The facilities were very good. A special mention goes to Ruth in the creche, who I understand is retiring soon. What a shame, because she was terrific with our kids, in particular our 6 yr old chatty one, who chewed her ear off about the resident hamster. Of course we have to buy one now.

For anyone visiting here, you will enjoy the house and the experience. You must visit Bradford on Avon. I was surprised how pretty and charming it was. Make sure you eat in the Teapot cafe, and visit the postbox painted gold for the resident Olympian, a canoeist. The postbox is situated on a road called "The Shambles", but this trip was anything but.

Actually if I am going to talk about "shambles", I do have to mention the only one negative about our stay: food and drink service. Front of house is fine, with someone very helpful based at the desk ready and willing to help. But the food and drink service is a bit all over the place. I am a bit London when it comes to service , so I found myself standing up near the entrance taking myself to the service all the time. Even then, I wasn't shown any attention ! It wasnt just me, because I overhead an upset woman complaining to front of house that it was her 50th birthday and the service was so poor, and can they please serve the hot tea after 30 minutes of waiting. Thats nothing love, I waited 35 minutes for a boiled egg the next morning !

Anyway, we had a great time. It's a shame you can't get everything right, but it was pretty near perfect with everything else.

We stayed here with our son, daughter and their families to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Anniversay. Our party included a 6 week old, 6 month old and 3 year old. The ambience of the place was infectious and we all had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Nothing was too much for the staff who made us all feel at home. The food was excellent and there was plenty for everyone to do. A true family hotel!

This was an excellent choice for a short break with a toddler. The free creche is a great idea and allowed us some time to unwind. The spa and swimming pool are also good. It is a period building with all that that implies - room layouts may seem odd, but it all adds to the character. Bradford on Avon is a charming town rather like a small version of Bath, and there is plenty more to explore in the vicinity. The hotel restaurant provided us with two excellent meals and all in all were were pleased with the service and friendliness of the hotel.
