“Hotel with character”
Reviewed 13 September 2012

This is a hotel with character! We had a very large room with some very chunky old fashioned furniture and a big bathroom. This is a hotel that makes a lot of effort to keep children entertained but our trip was a mid-week break so we cannot comment on the hotel at a busier time with more young ones around. There is plenty of room to relax in the lounges. The pool, though not huge, and the spa were both excellent. The staff were very attentive throughout our brief stay. The hotel has changed owners and we guess further improvements will follow but we hope that the old world charm won't change. We will certainly look to visit again.

Dear PedroandSkippy

Thank you very much for your feedback about your stay at Woolley. I am delighted you enjoyed your visit and it sounds as though you were able to use all the facilities.

Our original owners bought the hotel back in December 2011. They are investing in many areas of the hotel to enhance guests experience. This includes new beds with toppers, upgrading the heating system, creating a cinema for children and a sensitive refurbishment of bedrooms.

I hope to be able to welcome you back to the hotel again very soon.

Best wishes
Clare

Booked this for a relaxing solo break away to recharge not realising it was so family orientated.
That said, some good advice from the Spa team as to when to use the pool meant I had the facilities to myself (aim for early evening!).
Sticking with the Spa, possibly the best massage I have ever had from Jane, Head Therpaist who was amazing and tailored my treatment to what I actually needed rather than just going through a routine that you sometimes get. 3 treatments in total - all excellent.
Food was superb - choose a la carte menu in the evening over the Orangery.
Staff warm and friendly
Room and bathroom spacious with nice 'mini conservatory' that opened up (if you can get the doors open)
Directional signage needs improvement as sat nav doesn't quite get you there and hard to find if you don't know the area.
Fabric swags in the Orangery (dining room) are torn and need repair
Thought it was quite expensive for what it was and so would probably only return on a deal and if coming with children.

Room Tip: Grooms nice room outside main building but you have people above you - so can be noisy

This hotel cannot be described as luxury-very scruffy public areas with a mouldy curtain hanging at poolside changing area, ripped curtains in dining room, and outside furniture that had seen better days. There was a distinct smell of wet dog in one of the lounges. We sat outside for afternoon tea and there were cigarette ends around the tables on the floor. Coffee disgusting and I couldn'r drink it so had to order bottle of water (£4). Scones and profteroles were delicious however. Service lacking as nobody came out to check we were OK once tea had been served and had to go to Reception to pay as no waiting staff around.

The Jacobian building and setting within the grounds on the edge of Bradford-on-Avon is fantastic, and the hotel lived up to being incredibly family friendly and welcoming of children. It wasn't a true 'luxury' experience, as claimed, but certainly a good place to stay with a young family.

We felt totally comfortable leaving our 18 month in our room, whilst we enjoyed a superb dinner and a number of glasses of good wine. A real treat. Spa and indoor pool also very good. One let down was the service - a bit slow and the staff some times seemed pre-occupied. The ceiling in the Orangery good all benefit from seeing a feather duster.

We stayed for 3 nights and all told had an enjoyable stay and would try other properties by Luxury Family Hotels.

This hotel is what it says on the tin, a hotel for a family break. Having said that for us our kids were a little too old, but still enjoyed it. I stayed in hotels like this before when our eldest were toddles and I can honestly say the are invaluable.
The rooms are in need of some tlc, but if you actually overlook that and see what they offer its good value for money. Having read some of the comments from the manager on other comments left it seems they are making changes and of course these take time. The are having a refurb which will make it a bit more luxury.
BUT the staff were all fantastic and couldnt do enough to help. If you are a parent of toddlers or babies and need a break where you can relax and they can have fun this chain of hotels is spot on. And to be honest you cant put a price on that!!!
If you want to have a relaxing time in terms of lay ins you wont get it though as young kids get up early and I mean very early!!! I was woken most days at 6.30. But, as I say if you come here with toddlers thats whats going to happen anyway its just our kids are older.
The spa well this was fantastic, and the girls know what they are doing. Felt a million dollars after being there! And one of my teenagers had a facial first time I have seen their skin glow so much. Worth every penny!
They are never going to compete with the 5* spa hotels for luxury but thats not what they are about - they offer a service for those in need of some peace and place their kids can be looked after giving time for maybe finding each other again. Def worth a visit, just we have outgrown it! Thanks to all the staff our kids loved you!!! You know who you are :)

Dear Ursie Tucker

Thank you very much for your feedback. It is great to hear you had an enjoyable time. I don't know your children's ages, but we are developing our offering for older children, such as a playleader during the school holidays who will take the children outside and offer den building for example.

We always welcome more detailed feedback and suggestions and I hope the developments we make might entice you back.

Best wishes

We came to stay for a night at this lovely place with our kids, on our way to London. They have a lot of games for the kids. They also have a super nice spa & pool area with all you need. For those who have small kids, they also have a kids club where they can take care of your kids during the day or during night when you want to have dinner. We only missed a nicer place to eat with our kids, since the dining room was only for adults. The rooms & beds are heavenly!!! Staff super sweet.

We booked for 2 nights believing that would be more than enough for our 5 and 7 yr old to explore etc having never visited before and we would go on from there. There was mixed reviews on here but most favourable. Upon arriving we were greeted by the impressive Jacobean building. We arrived around 1pm knowing check in was 3pm. The receptionist was really friendly and offered to store the luggage whilst we went into 'The Orangery" to have lunch and wait for the room. The Orangery menu is great for both big and little kids! We then went for a walk around. The grounds are impressive. Immediately outside is a Lilly Pond leading on to the Gardens which are home to Croquet, Swing Ball, Outside Pool. Trampoline, Table Tennis, Small Football Pitch & a Mini Mini Maze for very young ones! We stayed in the Hay Loft which was a lovely Suite offering a lounge between the bedrooms. The Spa is both attractive and ultra clean with great facilities. The children would have spent the whole time in the indoor pool if they had their way! The "Walled Garden" is beautiful leading on to "The Good Life" area housing two play houses and a Chicken Hut! Then the icing on the cake.."Woolley Bears Den"! Home to the wonderful Nannies who will look after the little ones while we had a bit of "us" time. The Staff overall made the trip beyond our expectations so much so that 2 nights turned into 5 as we kept extending! The food was out of this world devised by Head Chef Mark Bradbury. Having been fortunate to eat at other fine places like Langan's, Ivy etc I can honestly say it is on par with the London elite. As we extended several times we also tried the Suites named Chapmans and The Balcony. Previous reviews have knocked the hotel on both decor and price. We were informed the chain had recently been taken over and most rooms have been redone to a high standard. Beautiful to be precise with lovely furnishing such as the Angelpoise desk lamps to name but a few. Yes it is expensive for what is currently rated 3 Star however if this was to be reviewed in 6 months it would be 4 on a bad day but realistically 5. Luxury is a word that cannot be pigeon holed. Yes the Savoy in London is luxurious as is The Burj in Dubai as is Chewton Glen in New Milton. They all offer luxury in a different way. Woolley Grange offer luxury to families whose parents & kids want to get away from it all, with everyone having that bit of "me" time, fine food and switching off. However their best asset? The staff. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you again in the near future!

Room Tip: The three suites we had were all great!
