I last stayed at Widbrook Grange some 12 years ago and little has changed - I am happy to say. The minute you approach the grounds you are at peace with the world! The house is welcoming and comfortable. The bedrooms are spacious and have all you need. Beds VERY comfortable, beautiful linen and towels.

The restaurant - it has all been said. Superb. Michela serving wonderful breakfasts - she is a delight. The evening waitress (sorry, have forgotten her name but a lovely graduate who lives in Bradford-on-Avon) cannot do enough to make the evening enjoyable, as did the Duty Manager, Chris. WARNING: don't visit if you are on a diet - the food is too wonderfully presented to refuse!!

We took a last minute break over Easter to explore the West Country and make the most of the great weather. We were very pleased with our choice of hotel as we drove up the drive to the wonderful building and surrounding countryside. It just got better as we were made welcome, personally escorted to our room and shown all the guest facilities (including a great swimming pool). The room was spacious enough for our family of four and the room and bathroom were spotless. We ate in the restaurant one evening and the food was exquisite. The whole experience was made a whole deal better by the attentive but not intrusive South African hotel manager who looked after our every need

Stayed over Easter weekend and had a wonderful time. The staff were very accommodating, assisting us in tickets to the Safari Park and even making a call to a friend to find out Easter Mass schedule for us. A high chair was always ready for us in the restaurant and our son loved running around the garden. The location is convenient to Longleat and the town of Bradford-on-Avon is a lovely afternoon.

We really enjoyed our stay here - the hotel looks grand with really attractive grounds. Avery comfortable family suite; we made the most of the indoor pool which looked glamorous and was clean and well heated - enjoyed by adults and child alike. Excellent food, though the children's menu may be a bit too sophisticated for some - the chef would probably be open to requests. Very friendly staff.
We had a peacefu walk along the nearby canal to the Tithe Barn at Bradford - what a beautiful little town to explore. We used the hotel as a base for a visit to Longleats - a fabulous time was had by all.

Room Tip: Search for great deals on their website.

Visited for the third time and once again enjoyed a peaceful and comfortable visit.
Have stayed in a courtyard room and the main house. All accommodation is well presented. The kitchen managed to cater for unexpected dietery needs with ease and understanding.

Room Tip: Give yourself time to sit in the garden.

My wife and I found this hotel whilst searching for accommodation near the village of Castle Combe; the hotel appears prominently on Castle Combe's 'outside of the village' part of the website despite it being 30-40 minutes drive away, which feels like it is stretching the definition somewhat!
Our experience was something of a curate's egg. We were very excited to be getting a four poster room in this fine-looking hotel however the room itself turned out to be away from the hotel in a modern, unpreposessing accomodation building, much less impressive than the fine georgian building you see on the front of the website. The room itself and its facilities were perfectly adequate, our only small gripes were that the shower pressure was a bit feeble and the mattress was only ok comfortable, a bit springy. The room just lacked the 'Wow Factor' we were hoping for, the ambience and character wasnt quite there.
Now the good bits: a key part of any service business is the staff and they were all first class. The owners and staff made us feel very welcome, were attentive and did their very best to accommodate us; this is very important to me coming from a similar industry and it makes a BIG difference. The evening menu was full of invention and our food was excellent, fully priced but worth it; the chef is clearly highly skilled. Also the policy of using local suppliers as much as possible is laudable. There was a mix up on the second night where my wife was not able to be accommodated for at dinner as a vegetarian due to a combination of there being a local food set menu event that night and very short notice given to the chef which was understandable - both the owner and myself, having discussed it earlier had forgotten to arrange this. Instead we had a nice Thai meal in nearby Bradford and the following evening a very good meal at a local pizzeria (something Amici?) also in Bradford. Other plus points: good cooked breakfast, the swimming pool and the location of the hotel for trips to Longleat and local picturesque towns and places.
In summary I would like to give the hotel 4/5 but due to the underwhelming room (the £310 three night deal for a four poster room would have been good value if the room and its situation had been up to expectations) it's only 3/5.

First of all I would like to thank our guests for the kind words they said about our staff and for the way that they praised us for our service and our food. We try very hard to make each of our guests feel very special and our food has a great reputation, so much so that our restaurant is often full.

There are many things to do and see based at Widbrook Grange and on our website, under the "Attractions" section we have detailed over 100 places to visit. With the description of each of thesee places there is quoted a driving time from the hotel. These time have been provided by the AA and under the Castle Combe entry it gives a driving time of 30 minutes. This information helps our guests plan their activity and we do not say that we are outside the Castle Combe Village.

Also on our website it says that the hotel, built in the 1700's as a model farm and it sits in a courtyard which is surrounded by stables and barns that now house some of the hotel's bedrooms. There is also a picture of the courtyard and of a selection of our bedrooms on the website. The rooms in the courtyard tend to be rustic rather than grand reflecting the agricultural heritage of the Grange and if you refer to past TripAdvisor reports you will see how much these rooms have been praised by guests. The mattresses on all our beds are to a specification that the hotel industry have determined satisfy most guests and if any of our guests has a specific need we will do our best to satisfy that need.

The guests booked our hotel on a bed and breakfast basis, we did ask them when they booked whether or not they wanted a table for dinner and they said that they were undecided. On the first evening they decided to eat and I am very pleased that they enjoyed the food so much.

We are however a little confused about the comment about the second evening. We were running one of our special dining events on that evening with a seven course meal. In addition for those guests who did not want the dining event meal we also had on offer our normal Al La Carte menu with vegetarian dishes on it. We always have a good selection of vegetarian food availble for our guests at all times and whilst we were unable at short notice on that day to put together a seven course vegetarian meal we did offer our A La carte vegetarian food dishes.
