“A very welcoming place - food very good”
Reviewed 2 December 2013

We decided to hold a business event here along with an early Xmas do. The hotel is an old 18th century farmhouse, with some rooms in the farmhouse and others in the converted stables. We were welcomed warmly and everything was shown to us so that we could ensure that everything was OK. My wife and I had chosen a special menu for our meal on the first night (before the rest of the party arrived). This was a "Fur and feathers" game menu, consisting of 4 courses of game, pudding and coffee and macaroons. This was excellent, as was breakfast the next day. The meeting room was well set up and apart from a group of very dozy flies in the attached conservatory, we had no issues with the meeting. Lunch was any choice from the standard menu and was excellent. Evening meal was served in a private room just for us, again from the standard menu. Wine choice is limited but excellent and priced competitively. Breakfast the next day was not quite as good - the hotel was full, and think that the chef may have been struggling to deal with the volume of orders. bacon was overcooked; one person's kipper was still cold in the middle. However, a nice place; great staff and overall, the food was excellent.

We arrived late in the evening to a very pleasant welcome. Room was great... everything we wanted. Breakfast the following morning was good with very good yet unobtrusive service.

Dinner that evening was great.... good food, good service and time to enjoy the atmosphere of a country house.

A very short stay for us but every chance we'll be back.

On arrival we had a long list of requests, including swimming lessons for our two children, things to do meeting our criteria, massages booked, a place for our children to go trick or treating etc. We were so pleasantly surprised when all the boxes were ticked, and then some! The service we received was incredible! The massage lady and swim teacher were better than the ones we have at home. The staff were friendly, helpful and tried their best to make our week long break as relaxed and pleasant as possible. The rooms were a bit dated but the service more than made up for that! We will definitely be returning!

My wife and I selected Widbrook Grange for a short break and never regretted the choice. The room was very sizeable and clean with all the usual facilities. We dined in the restaurant on our first evening and it was a terrific experience. The menu is not extensive but touches most bases and is imaginative. We didn't try the lunch menu but breakfast each day was excellent, always freshly cooked and served by the cheerful staff. We will definitely visit again.

From the minute we arrived we could not have had better service. We arrived late due to poor weather and traffic but we were served dinner immediately. The food all weekend was fantastic, lovely breakfast and really good evening meal-the diet starts today! Unfortunately we didn't use the pool but were shown to it and it did look inviting and beautifully clean.
What I would say, is this an old building and as a result does not have the 'clean lines' of a hotel chain hotel but what it does have is efficient and friendly service. We also had shower gel, soap and shower cap which many of the hotel chains no longer provide. Our manager 'Chris' was superb and nothing was too much trouble for him and his hard working staff. Peter, the owner looked after us on our last evening. Thank you all for a great weekend.

Room Tip: If you are tall ask for a bed without a 'kickboard' as some of the rooms have beds with thos...

I fell in love with this hotel. I arrived late on a Friday and was shown around, including the swimming pool. I had the single room, which was small but had everything I needed, including a working clock radio, hairdryer, lovely bathroom with nice toiletries and tea and coffee facilities. Add to that free wifi which actually worked and you have one very happy guest.

Breakfast was fantastic on both days. I wish I'd been able to stay for dinner but I was meeting up with friends. Throughout the stay, the staff gave the impression that they couldn't do enough for you and that nothing was too much trouble. In the room, I felt as if someone had taken a long hard look at it and thought 'What might a guest want and where would be the most convenient place to put it?'

I honestly didn't want to check out and I'll be back. This time I'll have dinner.

Having had a challenging year we managed a short break at the Widbrook grange Friday to Sunday. The welcome was warm, the room spacious with a very comfortable bed. All the meals were excellent compliments to the chef. It was handy to visit many places especially Bath easy by train with ample parking. Would recommend to friends & family.

Room Tip: We were in the main building room 5 would highly recommend it.
