“Very good but very small”
Review of Westwood Manor

Westwood Manor
Reviewed 16 April 2014

We were looking for a place to visit that wouldn't be too difficult for a friend of ours that isn't very mobile. Although there are plenty of steps in the house and uneven surfaces, it is very small and therefore not very tiring. The house consists of three rooms downstairs of which you can walk into two of them, and three rooms upstairs, of which you can only walk into one of them. There is plenty of interest and history to the house but it takes less than 30 minutes to visit everything!

Outside is a pretty garden with an emphasis on topiary, although as with the house, this will only take a few minutes to wander around. You can also visit the church close by which again is quite small (looks bigger on the outside!). So for the whole experience you will take less than an hour.

Nearby is a fantastic pub / restaurant called the seven stars (Winsley) which I have reviewed elsewhere.

It was nice to come and explore on a nice sunny afternoon, However we soon got bored. Its nice if you like that sort of thing but dont expect a grand house as it is only small.

I would recommend doing a few properties in the area

We nearly didn't go because it is only open on selected days but I'm glad we made the effort. Well worth the visit.

This is a quintisential National Trust property, but small, most interesting and absolutely exquiste. allow an hour or so only for your visit. There are none of the usual NT facilities here, but there is a pub nearby - the New Inn.

Off the beaten track. Magnificent plaster ceilings. Off-beat yew topiary - including a recreation of the demolished east wing. No tea shop but Mr Salvat's Coffee Room isn't far away. Only open 2-5pm. Check the National Trust website for details.
