“Fawltey Towers”
Reviewed 12 June 2011

terrible attitude especially general manager. Badly organised and low morale amongst staff.

Many guests complaining about poor quality and lack of food at breakfast. Wet frozen bread,

Ok for weddings but at the expense of resident guests who suffer.

Leigh park was a fantastic wedding venue for us and our 70 guests. The day ran seamlessly because of the slick service we received from the experienced staff.

All of our guests commented on how brilliantly the staff handled the event - wine glasses topped up, lovely food served quickly and the reception room was set up beautifully.

In regards to the accomodation - I can recommend the deluxe rooms in the Coach house and above the function rooms - they are all newly refurbished and are very clean (I am a bit OCD when it comes to cleanliness so - thumbs up!!)

Other family members stayed in the original rooms above the main hotel - some felt they could do with a bit of modernising but perhaps this was down to personal taste. They all commented that their rooms were clean and comfortable and I think everyone enjoyed the whole experience.

Overall we all had a lovely time and it was a wedding to remember at a well run wedding venue!

This was our second stay over the Easter weekend. We first stayed in 2007 and this stay was not that great. In fact it was the exhorbitant price of our usual "budget" hotel that made us consider staying at Leigh Park hotel. We were pleasantly surprised! We called to try to negotiate a special rate for 2 rooms to accommodate 2 adults & 2 teenage children. The receptionist arranged a 2 room suite for us at no additional cost over a family room. It was clear that the hotel had had a refurbishment since our last stay. The decor is however a little old fashioned - I suppose you could describe it as quirky. The rooms were comfortable enough and reasonable clean. We found a substantial amount of half eaten food waste under one of the chests of drawers but the rooms and bathroom were otherwise clean. There is clearly a lack of detail in servicing rooms - reflected by the completed customer satisfaction questionnaire which was left on top of the standard information pack by a previous guest from 5 days before our stay. Being an old building there is noise from other guests - the bedroom back: onto a neighbouring bathroom and this was noisy. The room had had a much needed refurbishment (judging by the old pictures we found stashed in a window seat) but bizarrely the 3 windows had curtains that were at least 20 years old. One had come off the tracks and would not shut and another was badly torn. Breakfast was an interesting experience. There is a special order menu on the tables with the message at the bottom stating that "a buffet service is provided for guests which the hotel hopes is satisfactory but they are happy to cook items to order during less busy periods". This was somewhat mystifying - why offer a menu if the hotel cannot provide the items. Buffet food when it was available was OK but staff had to be prompted to replenish food, drinks and plates. Also nothing is labeled so it is your guess what juice your drinking or whether full, semi or skimmed milk is on offer. There are no special diet Options on offer in the buffet. Because of this, we had to order off the menu for one member of our party on a dairy free diet - this request was dealt with courteously and promptly even though the restaurant was very busy. On 2 out of 3 mornings, staff tried to remove plates before we had finished eating "because they were short of plates". Very bizarre. Overall, we found staff polite when challenged and any problems seamed to be due to lack of training than anything else. The grounds in immediate view of the hotels are lovely. However, it does not take much probing to find building waste which is simply dumped behind shrubbery. This area is easily seen and accessed. Our children took great delight in jumping on old mattresses and even attempted to sit In bathtubs until they realised they were filled with yellow liquid (urine?). One word of warning. This hotel seems to have a large number of weddings -- 3 during our 3 night stay. There is a separate building, terrace area and car park for hotel receptions but the wedding parties do encroach on the hotel grounds, restaurant, bar and car park. This did not cause us too much inconvenience as we did not spend much time at the Hotel but I believe anyone looking for a relaxing time around the hotel and grounds Is likely to experience noise and inconvenience. We found it impossible to park at the hotel during the evening, the guests were noisy and wedding guests encroached repeatedly on areas around hotel bar and bar garden.

We are delighted that this guest enjoyed their stay at Leigh Park and had noticed the huge investment that has changed the hotel over the past few years,we are continuing to improve and upgrade gthe hotel with phase 2 of the landsacping about to start with the secure roped off area.

Weddings are a speciality at the Leigh Park and always accommodated in the Vendange suite which is totally seperate to the main part of the hotel however in good weather guests will be entitled to use the hotel grounds which are delightful.

We sincerely hope to have these guests back soon to enjoy a further stay with us.

This is a typical converted country house. Some bedrooms are in the main building; I was in the Coach House, a short walk away. The bedrooms were warm, spacious, clean and comfortable. The dinner menu was limited (I regard this as a plus) and the quality of the food and the service was good. It goes on my list of places to stay if I am in the area.

It's a gorgeous hotel which is very quirky instead however we were failed to be informed there was building work going on outside and the manager was the rudest person I have come across. The rest of the staff were helpful and polite and the rooms were lovely apart from the plumbing being extremely loud. It's only 15minutes by train to Bath Spa and just a short distance from a very pretty village. All in all it was a good weekend however next time I will be staying elsewhere.

This rather dated hotel is located in beautiful countryside on the edge of Bradford on Avon. If you would like a "Fawlty towers" experience then this is the place to book. Showers that don't work, temperamental service at times, nice looking breakfast and lounge area, but the rest of the hotel is rather dated and in need of renovation. Our rooms did not have fire doors and the communal fire doors were propped open during most of the day and evening! Single windows in cold weather brought back memories of Dickensian times. The hotel price was not high, but the very basic breakfast was not worth the extra £12. Evening meal: I suggest that you will eat much better and cheaper in the local town pubs.
