We stayed only one night and it was an adequate stay. The village itself was grand and I loved the Seven Stars Inn where we had a fantastic dinner

This B&B is a great choice for a family with kids looking for a value and a willingness to have a bit of a drive into York. My daughter loved having a space to herself. The room was in good condition, clean and the breakfast was very tasty. The breakfast room was very nice with a view of the garden. The hosts were very friendly.

We had two lovely rooms - one double looking out on the garden, and the other for our adult son. Nothing was too much trouble and Roy and Vanda were perfect hosts. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: all rooms are good but the back bedroom had a delightful view

I fail to see how some people on this site have commented negatively, having stayed in many hotels in various parts of the world "Serendipity" was in the top two! Travelling by train from London with a friend to experience the "Bath Spa" we had previously decided to stay out of Bath to avoid a higher price for accommodation. Whilst on the train we rang to say that we were running a little early and could we please have some instructions as to how to reach our final destination. Being early was no problem for Vanda and Roy and we were quickly told that the bus station was 2 minutes walk from the train station on the main road, and to catch the 265 to Winsley and to leave when we reached the T-junction ( they did give us the name of the road, but I have forgotten) It was then a short walk (3 minutes) through a quiet picturesque village to the B&B which was very pretty and at first glance a quaint bungalow, after being greeted by Vanda we discovered that the 'bungalow' was a veritable tardis! With rooms bigger than many of the hotels with a lovely en suite bathroom. We were shown to our room which had two single beds with a stunning 'caribbean' painting hung above the bed. The room came equipped with ample tea and coffee making facilities with no stale or half eaten biscuits (thank you very much!) Lovely fluffy towels in the bathroom. We were asked if what we would like for breakfast at this point and whether we'd require a full English breakfast, we both opted for a full english! The room also came with a digital television so we were able to watch what we liked on the television. We were also given a room key with the front door key attached to it and were told that there was a pub just down the road called the "Seven Stars" which was very highly rated, or we could travel back into Bradford-upon-Avon which had a larger selection of pubs. We opted to go to the seven stars, which was slightly pricey but we had been warned of this, but very good quality. The next morning breakfast was served in the conservatory, and it was lovely and the room could seat eight people, with a pretty view of the garden. We were given an extensive choice of cereals and the full breakfast was beautiful and was more than we both could manage ( I have no idea why others are complaining of the breakfasts not being big enough) We were also served proper coffee with was a luxury! When we returned to our room we found that our beds had been remade and the room tided, it was incredible! Roy was also extremely helpful telling us how to get into Bath by bus and how to get to the thermae spa and other places in the city that could interest two girls on holiday! When we returned at the end of the day, Vanda was again welcoming, asking if we had a lovely day in the spa and it was nice to experience personal service. We had a brilliant nights' sleep and in the morning we settled the bill and promised that we would write a review to this site.

I would just like to say to the negative reviewers that you obviously have no courtesy or respect for Vanda and Roy; essentially opening their home to strangers and I think that you should consider how you would treat your own home, because I'm certain you wouldn't use a curtain trail to hang your clothes on and leave your suitcases on the bed would you? I didn't think so, and as for the hosts being rude, well, perhaphs you should consider your own manners, were you as polite to them as you were expecting? You cannot expect to be rude and uncouth to people, you wouldn't in every day life, why towards a B&B owner and I am positive if you asked either Vanda or Roy to change or add certain things to your room, they would be happy to oblige.

I would recommend this B&B to anyone looking for a quiet, peaceful and personal stay at a beautiful, quaint B&B.

Where do I start, we have never stayed in Bed & Breakfast though we have travelled extensively, and we have certainly never written a review of any product or service but after our stay at Serendipity we felt we had to put our experience on record.
My travel companion and I were looking for a reasonable place to stay for a four night visit to Bath, having looked at hotel prices, and self-catering not being an option; we decided to give B&B a tryout. After much research and reading of reviews we plumped for Vanda and Roy’s place as it was both close to Bath and very reasonably priced. Reviews are mixed but nothing suggested it was best avoided so we were happy with our choice, though we were wondering what to expect.
Serendipity is number 19 Bradford Road, for those who rely on GPS, but there is a clear sign outside the property announcing its whereabouts. It appears to be a small bungalow as you view it from the outside but it is a true Tardis when you enter through the front door. The rooms are of good size, larger than quite a few of the hotel rooms we have stayed at through the years, and you have an individual set of keys for your room and the front door given to you as soon as you arrive. Check-in is 1600-1800, the earliest time matching all the time-shares we have travelled to and it is only reasonable to expect a limited check-in time for B&B’s as, after all, it is not a fully staffed hotel. I am sure with pre-warning you could check in later, with four rooms and seemingly full occupation with a transient clientele you cannot expect the owners to be home all day every day waiting upon guest arrivals.
Contrary to some previous reviews, we were greeted pleasantly, not over the top like I have seen on three/four in a bed, and were made to feel very welcome right from the start. We were shown our rooms, given a quick explanation of where everything was and left alone, just the way we like it.
The first night we experienced was all right but neither of us slept too well as we had trouble with the mattresses. Mine was very soft and my companion’s was very firm, we swapped rooms and after that we slept perfectly. It might be worth bearing in mind the different mattresses and state a preference at the time of booking. The double-bed, described in reviews as single beds pushed together, was actually a double that can be split into singles, again, something we have seen in many other types of establishment.
The rooms were fully occupied during our stay but we never experienced any noise from the rooms of the other guests so that was good and all the rooms are en-suite so no traipsing down a corridor at three in the morning hoping you don’t bump into someone else in their night attire. As this is a home converted to guest accommodation there are quirks, the room I stayed in has been described as having a shower in a wardrobe! This is not quite true. There is a bank of cupboard doors along most of one wall, one door is false, two open into a proper wardrobe and the other pair led into the en-suite. When all are closed it looks like a bank of cupboards and gives the room a pleasant vibe. I prefer it to the usual hotel layout and what is the difference to the guest who wrote the original review as to whether it is a standard bathroom door or one looking like a wardrobe door?
Breakfasts are very good, you have to go through the host’s front room to enter the conservatory where it is all served but there is no alternative and it made no difference to us anyway. It was nice to sit with a view of the garden and be waited upon; it would be too much to have up to eight people constantly getting up and down trying to get what they wanted. The quality of the breakfasts was high, perfectly cooked and Roy always remembered just what you wanted and just how you liked it.
Whilst you are sitting in the conservatory enjoying the food and over-indulging in that extra piece of toast, white or brown, Vanda has waved her magic wand over the rooms and when you return the bed is perfectly made and everything tided. I could do with her in my house!
Every person and every B&B is different, you only have to watch three/four in a bed to see that, but we certainly have no complaints about Serendipity or Vanda and Roy who both have been nothing but pleasantness and helpfulness personified. B&B is a different kettle of fish from hotel accommodation, ‘viva la difference!’

Room Tip: Mattresses vary so state a preference for firm or soft. One room involves stairs, the rest are groud...

Vanda and Roy were a pleasure as hosts. They were both very sweet and seemed to really want to get to know my fiance and I. We were shown into our room which was very spacious. Decorations were very cute and the room was clean. One of the things that really made us want to stay here was the badger feeding at night. We told Roy we were really interested in seeing this and around 10pm Vanda knocked on our door to let us know the badgers were out. We went into the dining room and got to watch the adorable badgers eat the food they leave out. We were also really lucky to see a fox try and creep in but be scared away by the two large badgers. It was really a neat experience. Breakfast was very good and they kept asking if anyone wanted seconds which was nice. Vanda and Roy were very very sweet, Vanda even complimenting me on my sweatshirt. The stay was pleasant and so were our hosts. Just one tip: If you are looking to visit Bath, as we were, this wouldn't be the place to stay unless you have a car, otherwise the taxi would be quite expensive. Instead we walked into Bradford-On-Avon which was really cute and very charming.
