“Beautiful one-off manor house in rural Wiltshire village”
Reviewed 22 July 2012

My partner and I are regular visitors to Burghope Manor and it's by far the best guesthouse we've stayed in of its kind. The owners have refurbished it to both a sympathetic and very high standard, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere rarely found in other guesthouses. It's peaceful, comfortable, well located for national trust sites and Bath is just 15/20 minutes drive away.

There is a lack of certain things like tea and coffee in the rooms, however the owners like to make guests feel at home and encourage them to pop down to the lounge areas where they're always available to provide pots of tea and cafetieres, so its more about making sure the guests don't feel like they have to lock themselves away rather than not providing certain amenities. The rooms are large and very well decorated with en suite bathrooms, extremely comfortable big beds and all the period features have been kept.

Breakfasts are hearty, which include a selection of cereals, tea, coffee, fresh orange juice, followed by a full English breakfast and toast, all high quality ingredients are used and very well cooked. The options for breakfast are limited, however this is a traditional, rural English manor, not a Holiday Inn, so I have no complaints at all. In fact the owners also provide three course evening meals and are fantastic cooks, we always look forward to staying and having dinner.

Burghope Manor is one of my favorite places that captures a unique atmosphere sorely lacking in so many B&Bs and feels like a home from home. I kind of hope it doesn't become too popular and stays a hidden gem!

This is a goegeous 12th century home with wisteria vines climbing up the walls, and peaceful gardens in a quaint little village.
The B&B has undergone extensive renovations over the past few months and looks wonderful
The rooms are large and comfortable with current furnishings. A large common room is welcoming for guest use as well.
Lacking were accessories that make a stay like home, such as bottles of water, tissue, hairdryer, coffee/tea in room.
Breakfast was limited to English breakfast without fruit, yoghurt, or other options

We had a king-sized bed here, the only one during our stay, so very comfortable that way, however, we had expected more in the way of amenities and more inspired breakfast.

Room Tip: It sounds like all rooms were really good in this location. All was peaceful.
