My partner and I are regular visitors to Burghope Manor and it's by far the best guesthouse we've stayed in of its kind. The owners have refurbished it to both a sympathetic and very high standard, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere rarely found in other guesthouses. It's peaceful, comfortable, well located for national trust sites and Bath is just 15/20 minutes drive away.
There is a lack of certain things like tea and coffee in the rooms, however the owners like to make guests feel at home and encourage them to pop down to the lounge areas where they're always available to provide pots of tea and cafetieres, so its more about making sure the guests don't feel like they have to lock themselves away rather than not providing certain amenities. The rooms are large and very well decorated with en suite bathrooms, extremely comfortable big beds and all the period features have been kept.
Breakfasts are hearty, which include a selection of cereals, tea, coffee, fresh orange juice, followed by a full English breakfast and toast, all high quality ingredients are used and very well cooked. The options for breakfast are limited, however this is a traditional, rural English manor, not a Holiday Inn, so I have no complaints at all. In fact the owners also provide three course evening meals and are fantastic cooks, we always look forward to staying and having dinner.
Burghope Manor is one of my favorite places that captures a unique atmosphere sorely lacking in so many B&Bs and feels like a home from home. I kind of hope it doesn't become too popular and stays a hidden gem!
