“Good evening meal, happy to take good dogs”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

I joined a boating party here for an evening meal, the food selection was inviting and the quality quite good. I would be more than happy to come back here another day.

The place has no problems with you bringing a dog with you, as we and other had done so. .

“Great summer beer garden with ample food portions”
Reviewed 3 July 2014 via mobile

The inn fronts the Kennet and Avon Canal on the opposite side from the towpath but is better approached from the road unless you can obtain one of the two moorings available for your boat. The inn was recommended by a local from Bradford upon Avon as being the best in town and so as visitors looking for somewhere to eat that evening, we determined to try it out. We arrived at around 7.00pm on a Wednesday evening and the inn was already quite busy. The evening was warm and sunny so we took a table in the attractive beer garden. The arrangement is to select your table, order food and drinks at the bar and pay there and then. This has the disadvantage of having to queue and pay each time you want another drink. Understandable but not ideal. In the end this probably resulted in our deciding not to bother ordering another round towards the end of our supper. We had the impression of a rapid turnover of drinkers and diners. Maybe they were similarly frustrated! Table service was fast and efficient despite the crowds of other customers also dining. The menu provided a good selection for our party of three and so it was that we chose a Thai curry, scampi and fries and steak and ale pie. Portions were generous and food quality was of a good standard. I would summarise the fare as a little below the level of a gastro pub but otherwise, above average. Our party was happy and on balance I would recommend this inn.

“Best birthday ever”
Reviewed 26 June 2014 via mobile

I had the best meal I have ever had on my birthday, well worth the journey from Wales. Not only is the food superb, the staff and regulars are friendly(which makes a change from a lot of places) the pub has a beautiful garden and a flight of steps takes you to the canalside
Dog friendly too, with tables in the bar where you can eat with dogs under foot, can't think of many places like this. It does get busy so booking is sensible. So thankyou Emily and team for a wonderful day.....I will be back soon

“Not very good”
Reviewed 9 June 2014 via mobile

Food was of poor standard, we ordered two meals and a starter to share , it all came out at once, by the time we had eaten the starter, our mains were not as hot as they could have been. The duck was poor with to many potatoes and my steak was a bit charred. Would not recommend.

“Appalling service”
Reviewed 27 May 2014 via mobile

Arrived at 7pm on a Saturday night, eventually got served with a drink and asked for a menu and was told to go and find one. Negotiated borrowing from a table and went to the bar to order food at 7.30pm and was told no food was being served as they were too busy.
What a poor way to run a pub and lost business. The other tables around experienced the same problem. Never mind went in to the Lock Inn Cafe and had a great meal which was more cost effective and more hospitable.
