Owner description: Bradford-on-Avon Wharf was once the busiest wharf on the Kennet & Avon Canal. Today, it’s a great place to spot historic canal features.

The Wharf is a very busy place with walkers, cyclists and boats of all sorts coming and going. There are two places to have tea and coffee and just across the road is The Lock Inn Cafe and two pubs. The Barge Inn has seats by the canal and quite often we spend the day there just watching the boats and people on the towpath. There is parking nearby at £1 for 4 hours.

Loved watching the boats going through the canals and the village itself is very picturesque with lots of good places to eat and great little shops.

My aunt & uncle were over from Australia and they don't have canals & narrow boats there so we went on an afternoon trip on the Barbara Mclellan Narrow boat. They loved it! It was £6 for a 2 hour trip and we went through 2 locks (same lock twice), we also went over a viaduct. It was such a relaxing afternoon out and on board there's a bar. There's plenty of seating inside, but you can sit outside at the front of the boat where you can really soak up the atmosphere. Would highly recommend. Plus where you get on the boat there's a very nice café which is reasonably priced.

The bradford on avon wharf contributes in a very positive way to the rustic and old feel of the town. Manning a narrow boat down into the canal locks adds a pleasantly satisfying feel to the holiday as the great gates are opened and the water rushes in- lovely to see this feature still functioning after its fair share of use.

I could not visit here often enough in our two week holiday in the area. It was a school holiday when we arrived and I was delighted with all the comings and goings.

The lock is a place of great interest with volunteers helping to open and close the lock. There are places to eat, toilets and wonderful walks along the canal itself.
