“Lovely hotel would stay again”
Reviewed 22 August 2011

The hotel is a peaceful rural setting, lovely grounds, great to sit out and take in the peacefulness of the place. Had a superior room, comfortable bed, room very traditional and decor a bit dull, but massive plus it had great views overlooking the garden, and was in the main house, rather than the annex accommodation which overlooks the veg garden. The food was excellent, all homemade to a high standard and served by friendly and efficient staff, couldn't fault it. Only small criticism was the shower, antiquated, infact couldn't control the water temperature effectively, so had a bath instead. Apart from the shower couldn't criticise this hotel, overall experience - lovely, would stay again. The value - we took up an excellent all inclusive offer of afternoon tea, evening meal with wine and breakfast, so it was a real treat.

We arrived; a weekend party of ten friends, and were made welcome by the nice staff. Our room was nice, large and comfortable. The meal was generally good; more later. The gardens are excellent; perfect for a relaxing stroll. All looked good, and was good; except for some niggles which all added up to disappoint.
We had to put towels on the bathroom floor to soak up the water from the antiquated shower (some of our friends had this problem as well). The evening meal was a curate's egg, some of our party loved their food, personally I felt cheated by the small portions and lacklustre taste.
A dropped bread roll was still on the dining room floor at breakfast. Breakfast was a hurried affair with some of the food appearing to have that 'warmed over' look. The bill at the end was steep with extras being priced at very high rates which made the 'weekend special' rate rather superfluous.
A good start which failed to live up to it's promise - we shall not return.

We had a lovely stay, it was so peaceful and beautiful. The restaurant was also very good and we were all (2 adults, 2 children of 5 and 7) so well taken care of. We stayed one night on our way driving to Cornwall. Don't miss the beautiful village of Lacock!
