“Good quality hotel.”

Excellent hotel just outside Bath. A great mix of classic architecture with that modern twist. Good facilities in the little town just a few minutes walk away. Nice little stables bar with good snacks. Breakfast set us up for the weekends walking. Only one little issue is that the bar seemed to shut very quickly and no facilities to get a drink afterwards. Oh well an early night it was!!!

Booked a 2 night dinner/bb OPL Exclusive Classic Break which is really quite good value. Yes the rooms and beds in the annexe are rather small, but comfortable enough. The food is excellent and service in the restaurant impeccable.
The niggles are:
Why o why such cheap nasty tea bags at the diy breakfast table? And at a luxury hotel surely one would expect a choice of quality teas anyway, including Earl Grey etc.
Like other guests being served just before us (and the ones commenting in these reviews) we also had trouble during check-out at reception, when they tried to charge us £32 for the 'complimentary' half bottle of champagne. Surely this aspect of the management needs urgent attention, especially as the apology was not particularly effusive. It tends to leave one with a rather negative feeling on departure.

We were given a two night dinner, bed and breakfast stay as a Christmas present by our Daughter, and didn't know quite what to expect. We arrived on the Friday in the pouring rain and cold and were pleasantly surprised, the Hotel was a loverly mix of the old and new, very Edwardian decor but decent modern amenities, our room had high vaulted ceilings and a good but small bathroom.

One of the major things that annoy us in hotels are small uncomfortable beds, not here a king-size with a high quality mattress, loverly over-stuff pillows and a big deep duvet - wonderful.

The food was of a very high quality (not cheap to be fair) and the restaurant service was quick and unobtrusive. The hotel staff were polite, friendly and efficient. If I was to make an observation I would have liked a dress code for gentlemen for dinner, some of us "older" men wore ties and a jacket, but younger men a best had a shirt, one even had trainers on for dinner!

I notice some of the recent comments from people who must have stayed at the same time as us, maybe, just maybe it was not there sort of place, especially if they don't own a tie ;-)

The website for the hotel actual doesn't do it justice to be honest - it's far better than it appears on their site...

Room Tip: Go for the superior room if you can...

We met up with a single friend for the weekend and were able to get a special deal (£20 off). Altogether it was 'fine'. Not great, not appalling. Travelodge has got better accommodation, but the food isn't so good! The deal wasn't such a bargain since they really sting you for every 'extra'. Want a cup of tea? Make it with one of the two t-bags left in your room. Want one in the lounge? £3.50 please. Four soft drinks and a glass of wine with your meal? That'll be £22 please. Vegetables with your food? £3.95 please. Which all somehow makes it a bit penny-pinching and 'cheap'. Oh, and at checkout our friend had to point out to them their single rate as they tried to charge her a double rate (luckily she's printed off the webpage). So, just OK

We booked a 2 night DBB break ... and came home after 1. The reception from the duty manager, Gary, was so frosty that we made our way to our room (in the courtyard, needless to say) with icicles hanging from our noses. Room was adequate; breakfast undercooked. Overall, we found it a cold, unfriendly place. If you want to be made to feel unwelcome because you have a 'deal', then this is the place for you. One positive .... it makes you appreciate home!

We booked a package through Secret Escapes for two nights' bed and breakfast, plus dinner on the first evening.
The hotel has the style and atmosphere of an elegant country house. Our room was in the Garden House, across the courtyard from the main hotel, and was clean and comfortable but a little dated and basic in comparison with the standard set by the hotel's public rooms. The bed was small but surprisingly comfortable, and we slept well. There was a hospitality tray with coffee, herbal and black tea and chocolate. The bathroom was acceptable, but there was only one hand towel, the soap and shampoo were in large pump-top bottles, and no face tissues were provided.
We ate from the Fine Dining Menu on our first evening - the food was delicious! Breakfast on both days was excellent, with hot dishes cooked to order.
The staff were without exception very professional, friendly and attentive. We were made to feel very welcome.
The hotel is ideally situated for visits to Lacock Abbey, Bradford-on-Avon and Bath, and the nearby village of Corsham is picturesque.

Room Tip: No lift, so ask for a ground floor room if you find stairs difficult.

We stayed here with a secret escapes deal. The hotel has amazing grounds and gardens which were lovely to see with frost on the ground.
We were surprised to find ourselves tucked away in a garden house which was away from main hotel. Not good as had been raining. The room was pleasant but wish it had a kings sized bed! The bed had a dip in the middle and seems very small for two people. The evening meal was really good but did not rate the breakfast. My eggs were cold. Would try another hotel in future.
