“Lovely little church spoilt by disinterest of volunteers”

Chesterfield Parish Church/Crooked Spire

An interesting church, just missed the tower tour which was apparently very good. Lots of smaller chapels within, some lovely Victorian windows. It was a shame that the volunteers were not friendly and informative, perhaps we caught them on an off day. We will return on, hopefully, a better day.

from the outside looking up its a very strange site the way the spire curves and twists round.on the inside it is very ,very peaceful and you can see that is well looked after.

The warden was very friendly and told us a bit of the history of the church and the spire. Nice stain glass windows. They have a good gift shop. Free entry. The church looks like a cathedral inside and is well worth a visit.

The church itself is interesting to look round, but the tour up the tower to the base of the spire is brilliant. I've taken several groups of friends on the tour at different times and the verger, who usually leads the tour, makes it different and fun every time.
He is informative, amusing and an excellent narrator.
There are awesome views from the top too.

What a wonderful church! We especially liked 3D plaster wall plaques around the church telling the story of the crucifixion. We have visited many churches and have discovered this gem on our doorstep! The stained glass is beautiful and the Foljambe tomb lovely. If you're in Chesterfield do go in, the volunteers are helpful and knowledgeable and there's a good little gift shop. We didn't attempt the spire as we've no head for heights, but it's still worth visiting. Lovely!
