A last minute decision to have a day out was a very good one. The hall was "free" as we are national Trust members and we thoroughly enjoyed starting with a storytelling session about Bess of Hardwick. Full marks to the volunteer who really knew how to tell a good story and stay historically accurate (my history geek husband was very impressed!). We also visited the restaurant and to my joy, all kinds of diets were catered for, including diabetes (extra points for this!). The order took for ever but that apart we had a great day and there were lots of activities for children and family groups we spotted too.

Impressive hall with pretty and well kept gardens. Excellent restaurant with helpful staff. Added bonus of entrance to the Old Hall included for NT members.

We had a lovely day with grandparents and kids - the stately home is impressive (though we only visited the kitchen and parlour - free) and the gardens are lovely. Kids played giant snakes & Ladders on the lawn. Had lunch in the courtyard restaurant - a sunny day - and altogether a great day despite not being light on the pocket with entrance fees + lunch !!

This was an unexpected visit as Hardwick was recommended by the receptionist in the hotel but we had a lovely afternoon. We were short of time so only visited the new Hall, and didn't have time to take everything in. The exterior is unusual with so many windows and there are embroideries and tapestries in virtually every room which deserved more time than we had. There were wonderful views from the hall and it was lovely to see so many families making use of the grounds for picnics and games. The food in the restaurant was good and the scones enormous. We will definitely be back but will schedule a full day for our visit!

2 houses, one complete one less so, plus lovely gardens.

On the day we went the lady giving the talks before you went into the house was superb, lively, entertaining and very knowledgeable.

This is definitely a place I would go back to.
