“Excellent Meal in the Clowns Restaurant”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

Four of us took advantage of the Winter Warmer Offer to enjoy and excellent meal in the Clowns Restaurant.
The food is always delicious and service attentive but not intrusive. I highly recommend the food here .

We stayed at the buckinghams for my partners birthday and they went above and beyond to accomodate us. We arrived to find our champagne chilling in the room as requested and the food in the restaurant was amazing. We had the silver menu and it was worth every single penny. The breakfast was also exceptional. If youre stayjng here i would highly recommend you dining in the restaurant. Lovely family and very accomodating. t

Warm welcome and very friendly, nice small family run hotel, food excellent. Recommended, chesterfield is a very nice town and the market is very good on Fridays and Saturdays, lots to see but as we stayed for one night only we were restricted in what we could do and see, all in all a very good hotel and and the town is worth a look.

We booked this hotel last minute as we were attending a gig in Chesterfield. Itr's walking distance to and from the town centre and has a few parking spaces in front or there's side road parking available. It's two old Victorian houses knocked into one with a conservatory on the back which forms the restaurant, a sitting room, small bar area and a private dining restaurant for special occasions. It's a family run hotel and they were all very friendly and chatty. Our room was at the top of the house, spotlessly clean and with an ensuite bath and overhead shower. There's no lift but we were offered help to carry our suitcases upstairs. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we were going out to a concert for the evening and we'd had a late lunch. we had a couple of drinks in the bar though before we left and the staff were chatty discussing what we'd like for breakfast the next morning. We explained we were both vegetarians and they said that wouldn't be a problem. We happily went off for the night to return at 11pm where we were happily accommodated on request with complimentary mineral water to take up with us, we slept soundly in a really comfy bed. Breakfast was nice, they'd remembered I liked mushrooms so they were served up with tomatoes and toast for my breakfast and hubby had his favourite poached eggs. Coffee was fresh, choice of juices and plenty of homemeade jams and marmalades to go with the toast. We couldn't fault it. We checked out and yes the drinks were a bit on the pricey side but then this is a family run operation ad they need to make a living. A bit less mark up though and slightly cheaper prices may mean more people would buy more! A pleasant experience though generally.

My wife and I regularly travel up to South Sheffield to see her family. When we saw an offer for this hotel on wowcher we decided to try it out. My wife worked in Chesterfield 20 odd years ago and had eaten at the Hotels 'Restaurant with one table' back then so was aware of the hotel.

Upon arriving the person that met us was fairly unfriendly and seemed annoyed that we were not eating in the restaurant that night. It is quite a tough one to put in writing but the atmosphere was I guess 'unwelcoming'. I'm not sure if it was because we were on a wowcher deal or didn't want to eat in the restaurant or something less defined. However as someone who has stayed in alot of hotels the customer service was certainly pretty frosty.

The room was pleasant enough although the TV was tiny and far away for a very long room. It was also quite cold in the room although the bed was really comfy and we both slept well.

The breakfast was really good with the exception of when I asked for an extra very small glass of juice as I wasn't drinking tea or coffee with my breakfast I was told it would be an extra £3.. (I wasn't given the option to rate the food below but had it been there I would have said it was very good).

Compared to some of the very friendly hotels in the area, this one left us feeling... well a bit cold to be honest. We will not be returning. If you attend on a wowcher then there is the possibility of being treated differently from the other guests paying full price.

Stayed here on business. Not knowing the area, was a little unsettled that I had to park on a neighbouring street. That apart, the staff ( x 2) were all superb from check-in to departure. The room was adequate for my one night, though tv kept dropping signal and the shower was low pressure. Bed was comfy. Didn't eat in restaurant 1/bit pricey 2/no menu et al (all made depending on your likes and dislikes). Pleasant atmosphere and good wifi signal. Beware of drink prices @ £6 for a beer!!... [WoW]. Nice and quiet throughout, ideal for work. Breakfast (ALWAYS my favourite bit) was lovely. Genuinely.

Our travel plans changed because of the weather and chose Chesterfield - only because we hadn't been there before!!
Buckingham's was BRILLIANT.
The accomodation was spacious and comfortable. We were able to dine in The Clowns restaurant. The table was ours for the evening, even though we were last minute and were prepared to move if the table had been booked later. The surprise meal ( no menus) really lived up to expectations. All we had to do was state any allergies or dislikes!
Buckinghams was within walking distance of the town which was an added bonus.
The staff were very friendly.
