It was a gorgeous, sunny Autumn day, which helps, but even so this is a lovely place to visit. We had a walk round and our retriever had a lovely romp and met lots of equally friendly dogs. The parking is free. The toilets are well kept and clean and the cafe is great value - we only had a drink but the food looked great so we're planning to call in one morning for breakfast (available as a full English & vegetarian option). The staff were friendly and helpful.
It's also good because the paths are gravelled etc. so it's suitable for all weather/ all seasons visits.
Highly recommend.

Thank Sue A

Sensible prices in the cafe and free parking with public toilets, how brilliant is that? Cafe serves a wide variety of foods and the most yummy cakes. Seating is in the lovely very warm cafe or on the tables outside. Park is great for kids, walking, dogs, fishing, football, cycling, remote controlled aeroplanes even! The open views from the cafe area are good too.

By living 10 mins away we have visited frequently but not yet been bored. It suits all ages, free car parking, various paths around the park, varying in length, 3 awesome play parks, one older, one newer, and one traditional one. Dogs are very welcome and there are plenty of places for dogs to have a dip and or swim in around the place. There's a reasonably priced cafe en route and a lovely duck pond to walk around where there are ever hungry ducks to feed. All in all a super inexpensive family afternoon out in the countryside.

I visited here today with my 2 daughters and friend and her 3 children.
We went mainly for the new park that was opened in early 2012 and our children loved it. As I suspected with it being a nice day it was busy but there were plenty of picnic tables and logs to sit on.
We had lunch at the on site café and the menu was very reasonably priced. My friend and I had a jacket potato and the children had sandwiches. The JP was lovely it came with side salad and coleslaw and the potato was soft not like some places where there almost raw!
As previous reviewers have said the prices are very reasonable and the menu is not huge but adequate enough for lunch.
We had a lovely walk round the fishing pond and fed the many ducks, geese and swans that came up!.
There is lots of car parking spaces too.
The only gripe is the toliets smell disgusting and not overly clean with no soap! But we took baby wipes and hand sanitizer so that worked out ok.

It is a huge site which is almost naturalised following its closure as an open cast mine.
The small brook which flows amongst the remaining established trees can be idyllic.
On top of the hill there is a small cafe which serves freshly cooked food and outstanding cakes. The reasonable pricing makes it a family friendly place to visit. The large playarea with a zip wire is guaranteed to entertain older children, leaving the adults plenty of time to enjoy a quiet snack.
This is a place to walk the dogs and ride your bikes, but you must remember that the hill is quite steep down to the brook and quite steep to climb back to the carpark!
