Abigail’s guest house was on the whole a clean, (cobwebs on ceilings) and comfortable place to stay.
The beds are comfortable but the overall experience is you get what you pay for.
We wanted to stay in Chesterfield to visit the surrounding area but with everywhere booked this was the last on our list.
The rooms are old fashioned and tired and could do with an injection of colour to brighten them up, with many doors left open we could see all the rooms are decorated the same. The showers are good (we stayed in 2 rooms) with plenty of hot water. The double room we had didn't have adequate storage for our clothes with a very small wardrobe and was a very small room.
The breakfast experience could be improved on. We found the bacon appeared to be re-heated each morning and was rather dry and hard. The breakfast room is a pleasant room overlooking the rear garden.
Gail was friendly and helpful, but was disappointed to find she wasn’t home when we arrived to welcome us, we were told how to get in by her partner and that the key was in the door. As we had never visited the area before it would have been nice to have had someone to speak to properly on arrival instead of her partner running off to do the gardening.
We would consider this to be somewhere for anyone to stay for a cheap overnight stay but not for longer.
The area around is beautiful although we found Chesterfield a bit run down, but would recommend visiting Bakewell and Chatsworth House.

Room Tip: All the rooms seem to be decorated the same from what we could see! The twin room was larger than th...

This is actually my second stay here and I wouldn't hesitate to return. Couldn't fault anything, excellent friendly service throughout. Nothing is ever too much trouble for them. A freshly cooked delicious breakfast just as you like it is served up every morning also there's plenty of off road parking.
