“Lovley friendly place and food let down by cheap chips”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

We wanted an evening meal and saw this lovely looking pub.
A very friendly welcome and a good old fashion pub.
I had the steak and kidney pie, one of the best I have tasted no salty black looking gravy but a beautiful flavoured home made gravy, sadly let down by cheap looking and tasting thin chips. All the other meals were very tasty but again the CHIPS!!! The deserts were also good and accompanied by a very nice local ice cream. so why spend money on good local ice cream but not good chips?
Will we be back? Yes, but hoping they have got better chips next time.
So you lost a star because of the chips

“Lovely traditional pub”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

Good pub food, and my husband tells me the beer is good too!
Like the history of the place, but the furniture is a little old fashioned and uncomfortable.

“Doesn't come any better!”
Reviewed 25 May 2014 via mobile

What a cracking place. Full of character, welcoming staff, superb food and a really nice choice of real ales (the blond ale in particular was a real winner).
We called on a Sunday lunch and there was wide range of menu options on the standard menu with a separate offering of a traditional roast.
On our table we opted for rabbit pie and although it came in a dish as pies often do nowadays the filling was terrific and it was topped with a lovely crust of proper suet pastry. The word Yum! just about sums it up.
Other tables had chosen different dishes to ours' they all looked good and judging by the complimentary comments from other diners they didn't disappoint either.
We'll definitely be back.
Just a note though. The pub is in the village of Hassop and (now) calls itself the Old Eyre Arms to distinguish itself from the Eyre Arms on the main road at Calver crossroads.

“A perfect end to a lovely day out”
Reviewed 22 May 2014

We spent the day on the nearby Monsal trail & stumbled upon this little gem of a pub feeling hungry & thirsty! We were warmly welcomed by the landlord & although they were almost fully booked for the evening were offered the remaining table inside or a table in the garden. As it was a lovely sunny evening we chose to sit in the garden which was a pretty secluded garden. The menu offered a good variety of food & the children's menu offered home made food rather than the processed junk often served in restaurants. The service was prompt & food was tasty & wholesome. We all left clean plates! We had a long drive home with children so didn't stay for dessert but overall a good meal in a lovely setting
