Lovely place in superb, uphill Bakewell location. Great for access to the village, plenty of pubs/restaurants to cater for all tastes/prices. Superb access to walks, check out mondal head, stunning views! Positives for accomodation would be location, house (very pretty), self catering, dog friendly, nice decor. Could improves would be around the finer/personal touches - the curtain rail was hanging down in our room and we did not meet anyone on check in/out (other than the housekeeper who gave us the key) which meant we had to seek advice on walks etc in Bakewell. Overal a nice experience. Would we return? Yes we would.

We went for a nice holiday which turned into an absolute nightmare. We were quoted £85 per night and gave our car information but was then charged £130 per night when we checked out!! They totally ripped us off! :( please stay away!!! SCAM is not the word simply because we had not seen the invoice they made their own one up. They state on their website rooms are £85 maximum but we were charged £130? We was put in the lodge too which was cramped.

This client booked their accommodation through Booking.com NOT through us direct
The price charged is exactly what she booked through Booking.com for an apartment in the Sleeplodge for two adults in the bedroom and two children under 6 on the sofa bed in the living room, for Bank Holiday Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, and the price is in line with our prices shown on our website
The invoice she says we made up is her booking confirmation from Booking.com
We had no contact direct with them at any time before their arrival and never quoted £85
Our website does not show a price of £85 for this apartment
Booking.com have written to the client but so far have not had a reply from her

If you like to have a large room in a character house, then this is the place to stay. Location in Bakewell is excellent but there is a steep hill if walking into town. Some of the fitting have their own "character" and are not in keeping with a 400 year old property. However the room was large and very comfortable. This is not a hotel but a privately owned house and does not offer such things as a morning paper or breakfast (unless by prior arrangement) & has no restaurant facilities or a bar. The bed was not made up on a daily basis. Hence, perhaps a little expensive in view of the lack of facilities available.

Great staff, couldn't do enough.
Room clean and well presented (Kitchenette a great addition)
Great location for Bakewell.
Would definately stay again.

Don't go to the Peacock for drinks, unless you want a 'Fawlty-Towers' staff experience!

Room Tip: Chatsworth suite. Penthouse style very quiet. Great views.

We stayed in the Michael Palin apartment in the Sleep Lodge which is adjacent to the old hall over the Easter weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There was three of us staying including a 9 week old baby and we have to say we were pleased we got this room. There are two parts to the hotel and the Sleep Lodge has a separate postcode so best read the confirmation email.
The Sleep Lodge has it's own car park which is right next to it, all the rooms appear to be either down or up small flights of stairs as it's built into the hill. The owners met and showed us to the room, which happens to be downstairs. It's a spacious, well equipped apartment with one bedroom (big enough for a moses basket as well) with a sitting room and kitchenette area. The kitchenette has an induction hob, small fridge and microwave so all useful stuff for you to eat in. The view from the sitting room is overlooking Bakewell and the hills, you're slightly lower down so it's not a commanding view but very pleasant all the same. There's a useful storage cupboard for suitcases, bags etc. once you've unpacked.
We were there three nights and in that time the room wasn't cleaned / changed - didn't find that a problem but had we been there longer it would well have been - this could have been down to two things; it was a bank holiday weekend or they simply don't whilst the room is occupied. This may be an issue for some if they don't clean rooms whilst occupied.
Other downsides - the sofa and dining room chairs are not for lounging on. If you do decide to stay in after a long walk and perhaps watch TV then you won't want to sit on the sofa for long - it's a bit style over substance. The bed however, was great and very comfortable, the bedroom window does look out to the path to the other rooms from the car park, some may find that disconcerting but you can only see ankles to be fair so we just kept the blind shut.
The bathroom was fine, really good shower so excellent after a long hike. The owners are very friendly and offer to help if you've lots of bags etc. You can use the lounge in the hall where there are comfy seats, magazine, books etc. The whole weekend saw the Hall and Lodge booked up. The car parks do get filled up quickly so we found doing walks around Bakewell meant we could leave the car put. One word of warning is that the Hall is on a hill and whilst the town centre is very close you may struggle going back after a good meal out! I would recommend the Lodge and whilst we can't comment on the rooms above the ones below were fine, comfortable and peaceful. A couple of niggles and fairly pricey but otherwise a great place to stay!

Room Tip: Find out when you can check in so you can get there early to park OK and do ask if the room is upsta...

We stayed in the sleep lodge which I was a bit apprehensive about but it was lovely, room was warm and very clean. We were staying because it was located closely to the virgin balloon site take off - this was called off because of the snow. The lady that greeted us was very nice, explained the best way to the village (avoiding using the car on the icy road). She was really informative and advised all the best things to do in the small town. All in all a brilliant stay and would definitely recommend the hotel to others visiting the area

Great little find 2 minutes walk from the centre of Bakewell. Huge room, wonderfully comfortable bed, nicely appointed. It was beautifully quiet and strangely - brilliantly - warm considering the weather was freezing. Check out and check in were completely fuss-free, even though we turned up very late because of a snowy journey. I would have liked to see really nice products in the bathroom and could have lived without some of the leather furniture which slightly spoiled the overall shabby-chic look of the place but these are minor quibbles. We will return.
